a potent new addition to the Winchester Smokeless line called Supreme 780™. Supreme 780 is the same powder loaded in Winchester’s factory Supreme® ammunition including 243 Win., 270 Win., and 300 Win. Mag.

I have just learned that this is a ball powder and the loading data on Hodgdon's website is quite impressive.

It seems to deliver maximum performance in a lot of hunting rounds.

Has anyone used it?....is it as good as it looks?

I just ordered several pounds of it so will be able to comment soon as well

Winchester here in Oz have ordered it, but it is not in country yet. I'm also interested in loading it and see what it has to offer.

Looking at where this is in the Hodgdon Burn Rate Chart I would be tempted to say it is very like 785 revisited, should be a useful powder, excellent for throttling up the 257 Robts.

Just spotted it(and some other new Powders) in the latest "Grafs" catalog I received last week. I was also wondering what it might work well in.

I was surprised that Reloader 25 isn't included in that chart.

Seems lately that every time I look for loads for 8 x 57, .30-06, .308, 7-08, .243....criminy just about all common modern cartridges I see Win-780 and it is always among the top performers.....shinzo linked it to a burn rate (thanks shinzo) and I see it's like a RL-20 (if it existed).....a perfect powder for a lot of cartridges......and it's a ball powder....hellsbells folks....I've been looking for a substitute for H-450 for some time now!

It sure looks to be a very popular powder in the coming.

Ahha, my favorite 243Win powder. Rumors were it performed "erraticly" in some of them. Never saw it in any of my 243Wins though.

That is an interesting Burn Rate area for some of the cartridges I enjoy. I hope it does well.

I forgot where I read or heard it but it is supposed to be the same powder as Win 785. Many folks were quite aggravated when 785 was discontinued. Merg

Vapo, have you ever used RL-22 in a .270 WCF?

I'd be interested to see how the two compare.

Thanks,

friar

Friar.....I haven't owned a .270 for several years. I sold you the last of my .270 brass but recently decided to build one on a Mauser VZ-24.....I also found a J C Higgens barrel for the task.

Historically I reloaded with H-4831 almost exclusively and have never used RL-22 in the .270....but it should be a good powder for the job.

I ordered a couple pounds of Win 780 for the .270 and other cartridges as it seems to be a very universal type powder and reducing the number of powders I keep is a priority here. I doubt that I'll ever use the RL-22...but again...it should be a fine powder for the 150s at least!

If Win-780 works well for me then I will obsolete RL-22 and H-4831.....I love the ball powders!

Vapo-

You should try the 780 in the field while there's time to buy a stock at non-Democrat-inflated prices.

I have used W-785 a good bit in my .270s with 150 gr. Noslers and it works well for me. I do not get quite the velocity with 785 that I do with 4831, but I get a sufficiency of speed to suit my hunting and personal needs.

It's a "flattened" version of 785, WXR, WMR, etc. There's a review in the August, 2008, HandLoader.

Unless you know for a fact they are the same I sure would not do that......even if someone on the internet said they were.....I wouldn't!

Email or write to Hodgdon for load data as Hodgdon owns the rights to sales of Winchester powders.
