I'm looking to try out several different loads in my 270 and am interested in the following:

Hornady -

110gr V-Max

130gr SST

130gr Interbond

140gr SST

Nosler

140gr BT

140gr Accubond

Barnes

130gr Triple Shock

Any load recommendations/performance reports for these bullets would be appreciated.

Also, if you want to sell any of the following, please send me a PM. Thanks.

The SST did not do well in my 700. I have had excellant results with the 130 grain interbond, it is now my main bullet. The ballistic tip also did really well for accuracy maybe slightly better than the interbond, but I question its abilities on game so I am sticking with the interbond with 3/4 moa average group sizes. I use 59 grains of h4831. I might bump it to 60 though in the future as I seat um out pretty long

Try the 140 Accubonds and if you can get them 130gr Barnes triple shocks. Both have been shooting great in my 4 277cal rifles.......DJ

The 110 Vmax starts at over 3300 fps with 53 grs of RL 15 and Br2 primers. The rifles barrel is 24" and shoots everything well.

The 110 Hornadays are the most accurate bullet in my rifle, .75" in a hunting rifle without a lot of tinkering. 56.5 gr IMR4350.

Most standard grade 130 bullets in the 270 are good workhorses. I have been using Rem corelockts for many longs have killed a big bear, moose, elk, and lots and lots of smaller stuff without a hitch. I imagine the little meplat on the nose costs me some downrange performance, but it doesn't get banged up in the magazine.

The good thing about the Rems lately is that you can get them at the bulk prices. I would say that you might kill things better with chiep Rems that you have shot a couple thousand of than those $1.00 a pop wonders.

The REM 700 I had in .270 win LOVED the 140 B-Tips!!! With the proper load of IMR4350, it would shoot sub .5 MOA all day long. The B-Tips also worked great on the 11 or so deer I took with them. COntrary to other's stories, I never had one disintegrate, even on neck or spine shots. They always exited for me, even on a 75 yard neck shot that severed the spine.

After doing some thinking on the subject, I think I'll take that advice and try to find a one of the cheapies that shoots well to also use for general plinking/practice. The core-lokts get good reports but I can't get them through my FFL. How much do they retail for and where's the best place to purchase them?

All I can get through my FFL(for cheap shooting) is the Win Power Points and the Hornady SP. The Win PPs will run me ~$8.50 per 100 and the Hornadys are ~$11.50 per 100. Any input on those?

I have had nothing but excelent performace from the Rem. core loks, there as good as any high $$$ bullets, don't just think of them as a plinker, just because the bullet Co.are telling you only bullets that cost $$$ will work is BS.

Midsouth has them along with Midway for about $10.50 per 100 in a plastic bag.

When I was a kid, whenever we could get ahold of either the Rems or the Wins we thought we were really shooting the premium stuff. I think they cost a bit more, and they were definately hard to find so we treasured them. I've shot some Hornadays too and they work fine.

The bottom line is you've got one of the best deer/antellope killers ever made in your 270. Just about any 130 gr bullet you feed it will do you well, the only reservation would be the Rem bronze point or Nosler ballistic tip. I don't have a lot of experience with them, because the first time I used them they seemed to be too explosive, so I quit using them.

If you want to kill an elk I still think you are well served with standard bullets. There are loads that will get you at or near 3000 fps with a 150 gr. bullet. I have killed several with 130s and several with 150s and I couldn't see much difference except that the 150 is more likely to exit which could make trailing easier if things didn't go right. When you are as well armed as you are with your 270 you don't need to be spending extra $ for fad bullets.
