Need a 270gr Jacketed RN bullet suggestion

I have been learning the quirks of a Mannlicher Schoenauer carbine in 9.5x57 MS caliber. That is a nice gun. The only bullet it will feed well (so far) is a Hornady 270gr round-nose bullet. It really likes this, but the Hornady page says it needs at least 2,400fps to expand. I am good for 2,090fps in this gun. So it will probably act like a solid in deer.

Anyone know of a 270gr RN that has a thinner jacket?

PS: I have tried the 220gr Hornady 38-55 bullet and the Speer 235gr Spire Point bullet. Both are too short to feed from this magazine. That is why I need at least a 270gr.

Frank at Mt Baldy Bullets makes a 300 " actual weight 290" 375 lbt style bullet . I shoot them out of my 375 Winchester lever gun at 1600 fps and flattened a good hog with it this summer . With it's large flat nose you do not need expansion . Being lead and a lot of weight is out side of the case you may be able to get the same velocity as the 270 jacketed bullet . Hawlk bullets will make custom jacketed bullets .

Most all manufacturers make .375 bullets that will meet your needs. Nosler even makes a 260 grain ballistic tip bullet.

Thanks for the suggestions, but this gun is very particular about the length and shape of the bullet. I am pretty much stuck at 270gr to 285gr RN. I checked the major manufacturers (Hornady, Speer, Sierra, Nosler, and of course Remington and Winchester). None had one that had all of the following: the right weight, shape, length, and would expand at lower velocities.

I would think the only options you would have there would be Hawk and woodleigh.

I vote for a call to Hawk as well. Andy will make you exactly what you want and the price will be fair. Do at least go to their web site and read about why they are unique - the best hunting bullets made, IMHO.

The website indeed makes excellent reading; unfortunately, the actual experiences of credible forum users here, many times related, seem to indicate a different evaluation.
