bullet pulling issue

I have a .44 mag cartridge that needs to be pulled.Said cartridge has been attempted to fire 3 times.

I have tried a kenetic(hammer type) puller with no luck, and put the cart.in my press w/out a dye,and used a vice grip to hold the bullet while lowering the ram. That only distorted the bullet. This cart. has one hell of a crimp on it.The bullet won't budge.I destroyed the bullet using this method, though there is still plenty of bullet to grab if I have to.

I am thinking of using a pipe cutter to take this thing apart.Or is this a bad idea?

suggestions are welcome.

My buddies dad made this load. Not me.

Put the cartridge back in the press with a seating die and seat the bullet 1/8" deeper.....this dislodges the bullet from the crimp and allows for easier removal.

O.K.I just tried that.Buckled the case! That is one heavy crimp.Maybe drill a hole in a block of wood, insert cartridge, and shoot with caliber of choice using the bad round as the target.Hit it on the primer. Wink

If you do shoot at it with another round with
the heavy crimp the pressure will be up and
the case will come right back at you.
You don't sound like the the sort of person
that should be reloading.

If you have enough lead exposed, take a drill and drill a hole horizontally through the lead. Put the round in a press, raise it, push a nail through the hole and then lower the round. This worked on my 500/416, however for one 44 mag round it may not be worth it!

Try laying the cartridge on a flat steel surface and using a small hammer, tap, tap, tap around the joint of the case/bullet. After awhile the case should loosen and the bullet can be pulled. Good luck!

Man I would never worry about pulling a single misfire from a 44mag. I'd toss that puppy.

Ive never had the pliers on top of an empty press trick fail. If it distorts the bullet who cares, just toss it. Use a good stout pair of linemens pliers and grab it with the cutter.

At this point it seems like dismanteling a potential risk is all you stand to accomplish. But tossing it in the can seems to make perfect sense..

You need to pull your head out your backside, cuz'n, cuz your talking and acting like someone who is about to loose some of your pieces and parts.

If the bullet won't come out using the reasonable methods mentioned...I'v used all of them at one time or another...you need to toss ALL that ammo...they are little pieces of dynamite just waiting to hurt someone...AND get another reloaderman...whoever is producing this ammo needs to take a lesson also.

I learned long ago NOT to use reloaded ammo...a couple of 38 cal S&W pistols(not mine) with their top straps blown off from double or triple bullseye loads convinced me NOT to trust ANYONES reloads...and to be very careful with my own.

Luck...sounds like you need it.
