Hi again fellow riflemen
I have a Tikka 695 in 338wm i plan to customize to a target rifle.

I have studied Lilja's table's, but hope to get some real-life experience's in here.

Purpose is long range target shooting.

What twist and bullet weight has the best potensial for that use ?

Do i need 1:11" to use 210grs bullet's ?

I shoot 210 Noslers exclusively from my .338 Win Magand get well under sub MOA. It's a browning A-Bolt with original factory barrel, whatever the twist is on that. I don't think you'd need a faster twist(or slower) unless you want to shoot the heavier bullets (280,300) for long range shooting.

I believe the Tikka twist rate for the .338 is 1:10. That rate will stabilize bullets ranging in length from 1.633" to 1.803", if your velocity is under 2800 FPS. If over 2800 FPS, then you will definately need a slower rate.

A 1:11 rate will stabilize bullets from 1.789" to 1.985" in length, if over 2800 FPS.

I'm not sure what the length of a 210 grain bullet of .338 diameter is, but the Woodleigh 225 grain bullet is 1.188", an dwould require a twist rate of 1:17.

Whatever you do, err on the side of too much twist. Over rotation has far less effect on accuracy than under rotation with modern bullets which are very uniform and concentric.

I have been using the .338 Win. since its inception..All with a 1x10 twist, mostly Lilja, Krieger barrels and lately only Lothar Walther barrels...They have all shot the 210 Nosler ( my favorite bullet for game ) and my other favorite the 300 gr. Woodleigh...the 200, 250 Sierras all shot good...

For what you describe I would choose the 300 gr. Sierra boattail, its a very accurate bullet and a very good game bullet BTW....

the 1x10 in that caliber will do it all....
