Nothing too controversial here, just wanted to brag a little about the best group I've ever shot... Decided on Reloader 25 for the powder of choice and the 200 gr Accubond (will be used on long range shots on whitetail) 28 inch Lilja barrel 0.8 inches taper at muzzle with Holland brake and oversized recoil lug. Action trued and lugs lapped, bedded in HS varmit stock. Smith work done by Kirby Allen. Gun bought used over the summer. Bullets on lands at 3.700 COL, but max mag length is 3.675, so I started out there. Nothing special, around 3/4 to 1 inch groups. Seated bullets to 3.650, groups down to .5 inches- now we're getting somewhere. Seated bullets to 3.625, 3 shot group of .18 inches! Woohoo sweet spot! Bullets at 3.600, .3 inch group. I just can't wait to get back out to the range and shoot that thing again! BTW, the 200 grainers are going around 3300 fps. Now that's some serious ft lbs of butt kicking.

Funny how little things can make such a big difference. Glad you had good results in a short time.

So you got the best accuracy at .1" off the lands? Kinda unusual, especially for an Accubond. ____________________________________ There are those who would misteach us that to stick in a rut is consistency - and a virtue, and that to climb out of the rut is inconsistency - and a vice. - Mark Twain | Chinese Proverb: When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others. ___________________________________

best accuracy was .075" off lands. Not sure why, but closest to lands I tried was .025 off (magazine length won't allow me to get to the lands). First time I've had best accuracy farther off the lands, but I'll take it with a smile!

megalomaniac, I see this all the time, especially in the short mags I have (several in 270 & 300 WSM). I've found that seating depth has a much impact as varying the charge by several grains, and I always 'tune' a load in if I get reasonable accuracy at a charge weight/velocity I like. I have several .270 winchesters that shoot better well off the lands, with Accubonds and especially Barnes XXX's. Great shooting, congrats on finding a keeper load!

megalomaniac, Isn't it great when a rifle performs that well. Great shooting. What trigger do you have in the rifle? And what scope do you have on board? Regards, Blair.

Actually , the best groups in my rifles that I use Accubonds in come at between .060"-.070" from the lands. I've also spoken with others who have found this to be fairly common with Accubonds. Elite Archery and High Country dealer.

Blair, Factory 700 trigger, not sure if the smith reworked it, it's too heavy for my taste (probably around 4.5 lbs). I'd pull it out and rework it, but I'm nervous about messing up the bedding and screwing up the accuracy, so I'll just live with it until I erode the throat on this barrel. Topped with a leupold vxIII 6.5-20 LR with 50mm objective in Badger rings and 20moa base.
