I have a 35 rem in a 336 Marlin but I certianly wouldnt build one on a bolt action. Go with a 358 win, it is much superior to the 35.

Remington used to chamber the .35 in the Model 600. It seems to me that it's a cartridge better suited to short actions, but if your friend wants to go that way be it far from me to discourage him.

My preference would be the .358 Winchester as well.

I've shot an XP in 35Rem for years. With the 180 SSP I easily get 2200 fps but the cases don't last more than four loadings. Sectioning them shows thinning at the base/body junction.

But you are going to find that this and most other bullets will give full penetration and not much expansion. I have NEVER recovered a bullet from any deer or bear I've taken with this set up.

As far as accuracy, a friend watched me shoot a three shot group at 200 yards that had one hole peeking out from under a quarter. That Leu 2.5 X 8 pistol sbope is unreal !!! Off bags, of course.

IMHO avoid nickel cases in this chambering. [Eek!]
