I was over at a buddies house and he has the sierra infinity ballistics program, we ran some #'s according to his program BC didn't make a whole lot of difference, I ran the same bullets and #'s in my free point blank ballistics program and came up with totally different #'s than his program was spitting out. he says his program factors in bullet wieght and BC where as my point blank program only factors speed and BC into the ballistic equation, So my question is which is right in times when one needs a rifle, he tends to need it very badly.....PHC

It`s bullet BC and velocity that is figured, the bullets wgt doesn`t fit in the equation. The difference in the two programs numbers is likely from the amount of "points" in the bullets flight it figures from. The velocity is constantly changing, and the program will make a new computation every so many feet, yards or whatever set distance. The more "points" the program figures from the more accurate the result. The result of plotting a path over 300 yds for instance with 5 "points" per 100 yds won`t give the same path as one figured over 20 "points" / 100 ys. I`ve no honest idea which program gives the most accurate result, but one can`t really tell the trajectory of his load without testing it at the distances he wants to shoot. There is no program that will be exact and most BCs listed in the manufactures ads are general estimates, not the true figure for all velocity levels anyway. ------------------------------------ The trouble with the Internet is that it's replacing masturbation as a leisure activity. ~Patrick Murray "Why shouldn`t truth be stranger then fiction? Also, from past experience, make dern sure you get your scope height exactly right....critical measurement! Any differences could be the reason you were not consistant between programs. Obviously, if you get this measurment wrong, the whole she-bang will be considerably off. Just my 2 cents. Happy hunting.

Cowboy..I can't tell you which program is more accurate, but I do use the Point blank program a lot. Usually it is very close when I check things at the range. Recently I picked up a burris ballistic plex scope and had to adjust my trajectory to that scope reticle. I spent a little time with point blank using my load and chrony data and made a trip to the range...my rifle shot just as the program had predicted..and the ballistic plex reticle worked out just as the info from Burris said it would. Point blank has been a pretty good tool for me. Zeeriverrat
