Guys, I'm wanting to have a 22 Cheetah built. I have the action (REM 700). Pac-Nor or Shilen will be the barrel maker. #4 or #5 cut to 26" is what I'm thinking about going with.
I'm wondering of any of you have any experience with the caliber. Load recommendations, bullet/twist combo, brass forming tips,...
I read an article on the 22x284 and was planning on trying some of Lost River's bullets, but not at $36 per 20! Nosler's 60 Partitions will be getting a try for sure. I'm planning on the rifle being a long range coyote and food plot "doe thinning" rifle.

Thanks

Snow,
I've been building and shooting several 22-243 Ackley Improved rifles for the last 4 years. This cartridge is very similar to the Cheetah. The Cheetah comes in two shoulder variations, make sure you know which one you want and get.

The 3 twists that I can vouch for right now are 8, 10 and 12. I shoot 80's, 77 Sierras and 75 VMAX in the 8 twist in a 28" barrel. The 10 twist will handle up to the 68 grainers while the 12 is reserved for the short, light, fast ones. I keep my barrels long and fat since most of what I shoot are prairie dogs and coyotes at long range. I would have to do some work to recommend a bullet for deer culling. Even though we can use .22 caliber out here also, I just haven't done so.

Once you have your rifle in the works, I'll help with loads and helpful hint for reloading. There are too many variables in the chambers for me to just list loads.

Let me know how it goes or if you need more info.

Bill

I have been building the 22-243 Middlested version for some time now with mostly 9,10, 12, &14 twist. The guys are shooting from 80gr Sierras down to 35gr V-max. My experience has been that the 10 twist will shoot everything up to and including most of the 75gr bullets, but if you want to shoot light bullets go with the slower twist, you will get a little more velocity before the pressure genie comes out. For the 60 Nosler I would use a 12 twist.
