The only projectiles HP makes itself are the ABC bullets inspired by the old P.O. Ackley bullet. They are expensive and cannot be driven nearly as fast as a lead core bullet, a problem they share with Barnes X and MEN SFS bullets.

HP brass is about the worst in Europe, worse even than S&B. Primer holes are so small that the decapping pin will very often stick and the level of finish of the brass head leaves a lot to be desired.

DeafDog and David,

I just bought 40 pieces each of their 6.5 x 68 and 8 x 68S brand new from the Scrounger. The overall finish was as good as any of the American manufactured brass. It came with the neck and shoulder annealed, you can tell by the discoloration.

I sectioned one each of both of these cartridges and did some measuring. The inside finish was good and the measurements were consistent. The flash hole is sized to allow my dies to deprime without sticking or breaking anything.

I weighed all the cases and they sorted the same way that most other brass sorts with the exception of some Lapua.

I haven't shot any yet since I'm still working on the barrels. When I do I'll post some information.

Bill

Gentlemen,

Our experience with their ammo has not been very good either. I have tried 223, 308, 6.5x68 and 7mm Remington mag.

All of them had extremely high pressure. We won't shoot them again.

Have to agree with Saeed. HP loaded ammo is notorious for loading their cases not even half full with very fast burning powder. Once got in a couple cases of 7x57 with 175 gr Nosler Partitions incredibly cheap and passed the savings down to my customers. Two came back and complained that they could hardly open the bolts after shooting their as-new M1935 Brazil short rifles. I tried their ABC loads in my 7 mm Rem Mag and found flattened and cratered primers combined with velocities a full 110 m/sec lower than factory tables. Their 9x19 ammo is okay but the flash holes are so small that even the thin Lyman pins would get stuck on resizing. If you want really beautiful brass, use RWS, Norma, Lapua and Romey as your standard.

Hi Guys
Thanks for your comments.
Hirtenberg is new to Australia and we had never heard of it.
I am getting some 6.5x55 Hirtenberg brass and 140 gn SPBT projectiles to try in my M96.
We are having the NSW Military Service Rifle State Titles at our Casino rifle range 1/2 September.

The brass of Romey is made by Dieter Horneber, I believe ? Excellent stuff for the rarest cartridges.

That's right, C91, and Horneber brass is carried by Buzz Huntington in CA.

Bill, keep us posted bout Your reloading those rounds.

I also experienced the tight flash holes. But in .357 cases they are tops! I stopped after 8 reloads ( max load with Unique ), where RWS cases with same load split after 2 reloads!

HPs .357 is really hot, but accurate. Dont use it too much in a 19/66. I dont mind, I own a GP 100 ...

Good Shooting H
