I have noticed this on the Combined Technology Winchester Ballistic Silvertips. They have a sticky brown coating, much like Cosmoline that is found on new guns for rust preventative. This is obviously something the factory applied or failed to remove. Has anyone else noticed this? Should these bullets be cleaned before being loaded? I thought it was part of the coating on bullets, but the coating is black not brown like this residue. Thanks! [ 09-02-2002, 03:07: Message edited by: Ken Cline ]

Ken, I am really surprised that you are finding any residue on the Nosler bullets. I recently went on a tour of the Nosler manufacturing plant and those bullets come out of there spotless! After the final nose forming the bullets are washed and polished in big batches the dried and sent on for packaging. Post the washing and polishing they are never touched by anyone not wearing white cotton gloves. I would contact Nosler and see what they have to say about it. The Ballistic Tips should come from there clean as a whistle. The Combined Technology bullets are manufactured there, but are sent elsewhere for the coating process. Neither type should have any brown residue on them, I would not think. Let us know what Nosler has to say about it. R F

R F, Thanks for the information. I went back and checked my bullet supply, and the residue is only on the Combined Technology black coated bullets. I was mistaken when I originally posted that it was also on the non-coated bullets. In this case, I am guessing it is just a residue of the coating process. I just wipe them with a clean cloth after seating in the case and they turn shiny black. I'm sure this is a common occurance.
