What is the differance from the 308 win benchrest dies and national match 308 dies. The cost is the same and everything in the discription says the same thing.

National Match 308 I believe goes to NATO 7.62x51 specs. The headspace is slightly different. The .308 Win "Go Gauge" is 1.630" vs. 1.635" for the 7.62x51. The .308's "No-Go" dimension is 1.634" vs. 1.6405" for a 7.62x51 "No Go" gauge. Some one else with more knowledge than me can either verify this or discount it.

There is a .013" difference in chamber length however, between these two "Safe & Serviceable" rifles!

I have been told (by someone extremely knowledgeable) that the National Match dies are for gas guns using the NATO cartridge.

7.62 NATO, .308, match field 1.638"

Match additional gauges:
1.631"

I just compared some unfired 308 Federal Gold ammo with a 1.630" headspace gauge, with some unfired 7.62x51mm NATO ammo:

If we believe my new headspace gauge made by Forster [For those of you in Rio Linda, I am using it as the reference], then I think we have:
A) Cavim 1990 7.62x51 NATO ammo 1.6290"
B) Forster 1.630" gauge 1.630"
C) Federal Gold Match 308 Win 1.6315"

What does it all mean?
When we are told that the NATO is .0130" longer, it may really be .0025" shorter.
