Here it is. My NEW NEW NEW 30-06 Ackley barrel, two 15-round Ladder groups loaded up, video cam to record hits, Ohler Model 33 Chronograph and the time tomorrow morning to do it.

The weather? So far, I'd be shooting INTO..... 6-8 mps winds with "Few Snow Showers" and 29-33 degrees.

Would you chance it, or hold off for better weather?

I've never had a problem with a head-wind or tail-wind, especially at 6-8 mph. Even light rain hasn't been a problem, but that was only out to 100yds. Are you going to be shooting at 200-300? My concern would be holding steady without shivering in those temperatures - it doesn't get that cold here in Phoenix!! Eeker

Hey Big Al, That temperature would not be when I'd be doing Initial Load Development. I'd have a difficult time maintaining my concentration on the job at hand.

Might be a good time to do some Fire-Forming if you just want to get out though.

Once you get the Load Developed in a bit better weather, then you can always Fine Tune it when cold weather comes back around.

On the other hand, if you can keep your Focus at a peak, the worst that would happen is you have to re-shoot the Testing.

Best of luck to you.

Dang it to heck any way!

Woke up this morning to about 6-7" of fresh snow and still coming down. Did't make it out. Ended up shoveling the drive/walks. The temps don't bother me. I actually prefer cooler/colder weather vs hot summer temps. I dress appropriately. Plus, I was afraid of getting stuck in the snow where I go; big wheat field hasn't be plowed in years. In that field, I can set up virtually anywhere and make sure I'm shooting into or with the wind.

I did run down the road from my house just now and fired off one round to fireform my first case; looks cool! Now, off to clean the barrel real good.

GSSP, I am wondering what powder and bullet(s) you have selected to begin with. My '06 AI prefers IMR 4831 or R22 with 180 grain Noslers. Velocities run between 2850 and 3,000 depending upon powder choice.

308Sako,

I'm starting out with Rel 22 and 25 pushing the Nosler 180 BT in new Winchester cases primed with Fed 210M.

GSSP, My guess is that R25 is going to be too slow for that combo. I might be compressing the R22 just alittle in my AI'd cases. I am loading them quite long as well do to a generous action length. MY COL is 3.410, I am beginning to chase the rifling in this Wiseman tube. It's a fun round and can kill like a thunderbolt, have fun.
