I just recently purchased a 700 Ti in 260 Rem. I plan on using Lapua 243 brass. Can I get the same results by just neck sizing them to .264 instead of FL sizing them?

Have any used this brass for their 260?
If so, do you notice a capacity difference compared to
regular 260 REM brass.

Any have a favorite primer for the cartridge as well.

Thanks,

I'd neck up and then use a full length die to resize it again.

If you use any other caliber of brass to form to 260 Rem,. I'd recommend the 308 or 7/08 and neck down. It is a lot easier in my opinion. I prefer Winchester brass over Remington and I have found the necking down much easier on life than necking up from 243.

And any major brand of large rifle primer works just fine and dandy.

Just my 2 cents in a 10 cent world.

Cheers and Good shooting

yava, this is my favorite caliber and i think you will like it too. i'm not sure but i believe you do have to fl size because the shoulder is different for the .260. i have never used factory .260 brass so can't help with any comparison

as for lapua 243 brass. i have not used it. i converted a m77 in .243 to .260 so i had a lot of winchester nickle plated .243 brass. it shot great after some load developement. so to get better groups and because i had about shot out the original brass, i bought some lapua .308 brass.

it is much easier to size than the winny nickle but has not as yet improved the group size.

i have settled in with varget powder, sierra match kings either 120 or 140 grain and as with all my rifle loads i use only federal gm210 match primers.

check several loading books and start at the lower charge weight and work up.

good shooting

Greatly appreciate your responses guys.
I'll be trying Sierra 85s &107s, Nosler 100 120 125 and 140s

Ive got a sea of powder to work with. I have been messing with Quick Load for this round and see that some of the slowers (RL22) work for it, my only concern is if you can get enough of it in the case to get the velocities.
Trying for 100s at 3,300 fps
120's at 3,000 fps
140s at 2,800 fps, Quick load shows me 48g of RL22 for 2,808
at 58,378 psi Hope this one is a worker.
I know quick load is only a quide and will start lower.
Any try N160?

I'll be putting a VX3 2.5x8 on top using Tally one piece light weights. Wish me luck and thanks again!

Seafire, I tried necking down .308 brass for my upcoming .260AI. I get vert. folds in the neck. I was able to neck down s0me misc. 7-08 brass I had laying around, but the .308 was a no go. Necking up from .243 is a snap though as long as you have a tapered expander.

Fred,

Ya know that I respect your opinion. Guess it is one of those funny things, but I had the exact opposite results? Go figure?

My preference tho is 7/08 brass. It does the cleanest sizing without a doubt.

But I have had no problems with Rem or Winch brass in 308 going smaller, but I have had screw ups with neck splits on new 243 brass from both outfits. More than one lot number involved. In fact I just necked it back down to 243 and used it for that.

I don't shoot a 308 or 7/08 ( have 30/06s and 7 x 57s instead)
so the head stamps tell me it is for my 260s. I do shoot a lot of 243 tho.

Wonder if your problems had anything to do with your 260 being an AI version? Mine is the regular factory specs.

Cheers and Good shooting

For powder in the 260, I recommend IMR 4064 hands down. Beat Varget, 4350s, etc for that group size, accuracy and velocity Holy Grail in all three of my 260s.

Seafire, I'll probably just go w/ factory .260 but I have no .243 so Lapua brass was my thought. Funny about the .308 brass results. I don't have any problems going from .35whelen to .338-06 but I tried new .308, OF & some older stuff, I get vert. wrinkles every time.

I use Lapua 243 cases in my 7mm-08,I didn't resize them though I fire formed them.

I tried neck sizing them with the standard redding neck sizing die but it only pushed the neck into the case, however I now have the tapered neck expander so I will try that with my next lot of new brass.

I use CCI bench rest primers which work well for me but any large rifle primer should work.

I am extremely happy using 243 Lapua cases,I have 200 now & 50 remington 7mm-08,after 13 firings the O.A.L. of the remington cases is averaging 2.033" while the lapua cases are averaging 2.028"

Fred,

Must be in the wrist action when we pull our levers down to resize the brass, lol.

I just prefer Winchester brass over Remington, so I go with the 7/08 and 308 brass, just because they don't make 260 Brass at Winchester. Other than that, I agree with you 100 % just buy the Rem 260 brass.

Cheers and Good shooting

seafire, what kind of dies are you using? Mine are Redding, I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact they are >260AI dies?

Fred,

I am actually using Lee 260 Dies, RCBS 260 dies and Redding 260 dies. ( I am an indecisive guy on some subjects)

I normally neck the 308 or 7/08 brass down in the Lee Die, with the Decapping pin and Stem removed.

Then I resize the die with the Redding or the RCBS full length sizing die, to open the throat on the case's neck.

I am just probably more blissfully ignorant than you are is the case!

Cheers and Good shooting
