Optimum charge weight. There was one person on this board who was pushing this theory, ie. that there is an optimum charge weight for each caliber. His methodology was essentially the same as the Creighton Audette method for determining how a particular powder/buller combination performed in your rifle with a minimun number of rounds fired (about 20 for record, plus some fouling shots) Audette and his followers NEVER claimed that there was an OCW for a given caliber, however, this guy did (green788?, I can't remember his name). I accept the Audette methodology but do not accept the OCW theory!

Peter,

I think that there is an OCW for every firearm, with a particular bullet, primer and case... [Wink] NOT for the cartridge in any rifle.

I tried that modified Audette method. I don't think that at the ranges at which I shoot the cartridges I use the difference in POI is sufficiently different to be actually useful. I simply do not have a 200 or 300 yard range nor do I often have an opportunity at game at those ranges.

I think every rifle is a rule unto itself.
