sense I don't want to waste powder in load develement. anyone got a good load with RL-22 with 117 sierra spbt or 117 Hornady spbt | ||

I had a load worked up with 50.7 grains of RL 22 and the Sierra 117 SPBT. Book max for this load was 50.5 grains in the Sierra 5 loading manual. It was an OK load but IMR 4350 and IMR 4831 worked a lot better. It's Interesting That in the new Sierra 6 loading manual that max load is 52.1 grains now. | |||

I always shot 100 grain Partitions and H450 since I didn't know better and killed lots of deer, antelope and bear with it! Zeke | |||

I like the 25/06. It was my go to deer rifle years ago. I trier R22 with 120gr sierra HP GK and and it shot pretty good. I really like the Sierra FB spitzer. 117gr. 49grs of H100V WLR primers Privi brass. Best accuracy. Hornady HP 120gr shot good with R22 as well as 3 other powders. AA2700 IMR 4831 and Varget. loss of a couple hundred feet velocity with the Varget. I was loading 50.5gr of R22 and a 117 sierra HpBt CCI 250M primers win. brass | |||

, ok thanks.. this is not my rifle, bu, I do have 150 pcs of hornday 117 BTSP and 3 pounds of RL-22 I was loading 51.0 of IMR4831 but I ran out. | |||

I've found IMR7828SSC to be an excellent substitute for the 4831's. It produces similar pressures and velocities when increased by about 3% by weight over loads using H4831 or perhaps 6% over loads using IMR4831. My .25-06 load is 55.0 grains of IMR7828SSC with a Nosler 115 grain (3125 fps), which roughly corresponds to your 51 grains of IMR 4831 with a 117 grain bullet. | |||

To load any rifle in any caliber has no shortcuts..Work up a load for YOUR rifle, or just shoot any of a number of loads in any reloading book, and based on your post you might be wise to just shoot factory ammo and sell the shot brass, in this day and time... Right; this always baffles me; asking for a load is futile and potentially dangerous. Rifles are all different. Work up a load. | |||

thanks for the advice, but I don't sell my reloading supplies. I have enough supplies to last me and my family for about 20-25 years if I don't buy nothing else, I did work up a load for the 25-06 of 51 grs. of RL-22 and a 117 I am a very wish reloader.. I do not take shortcuts. been handloading for 41 years... | |||

Are you working without benefit of a chronograph? IMR4831 is significantly faster burning than RL-22, so with the same amount of powder (51 grains) your RL-22 load is probably somewhat lower in velocity. That may or may not matter to you, but you should be aware of it. | |||

I am aware of it thanks, but 52.0 grains of RL-22 is Max. with a 117/120 book says 2931? I did have a chrony but someone borrowed it and never got it back.. but it did have a .82 group @ 100 yrds | |||

Very sound advice for reloading. What shoots good in mine probably will not in yours. Recipe maybe close With that said I have found R22 a little to slow for my liking. 4350 either IMR or Hogdon variety, R15, or 4831. | |||

I have used 4350 and 4831 but, RL-15 ? to fast for 25-06 with 120's | |||

I load for a buddy who has one and R15 works good for his 100 grain Ballistic Tips. As I recall from memory it is around 56 grains of R15 which is a max load. For 120 grain yeah I agree to fast. | |||

MyNameIsEarl,.. you might want to check that load date. Are you sure it is RL-15 and not RL-19 100 grain bullet, 25-06 H4831 is 54 grs Max RL-19 is 57 grs. Max IMR 4064 is 44.0 Max alliant powder site. 100 grain billistic tip 54.2 max of RL-23 | |||
