I bought a Savage M-99 one time with a bad 308 chamber and rebarreled it to a 338/284, shot it a bit..I started 10% below 338-06 and worked up...It was a dandy with the 210 Nosler, but not much with the heavy bullets as they had to be seated to deep...I looked for the loading data I worked up but I guess it went to the fellow that bought the gun...Seems to me it liked IMR-4350 real well. ------------------

Thanks Ray, the 338-06 dummies I have are a bit too long with the heavier bullets. Although I will probably stick with the 210 gr. partition I like things to be versatile juse incase. I also failed to mention that i also have a 700 standard action. Which one would be better to build this rifle from? Keep in mind the other action will probably be used for a 6mm remington A.I.

you will be way ahead to use the 700 action...short actions arn't for me, that 1/4" is a royale pain in my gun rack, I like the 284 based rounds in autos, levers etc. but they don't cut it in short action bolts because you have to seat the long bullet so deep that you end up with a lesser gun than you would otherwise have. Frankly, I would use the 700 and build me the best of the medium bores, the 9.3x62 or the 338 Win... I played with the 35 Whelen and 338-06 both standard and Improved versions, and they were just fine, but no better, nor as good than the 338 Win or 9.3x62 that are factory rounds. Just my opinion.. ------------------
