| My model 70 did well with a stout dose of IMR7828 and Nosler's 200 grain accubond. The recoil will make your eyes cross, but nothing in the lower 48 is going to walk away from it... |

| I too like IMR7828 in my Rem 721 300H&H |

| Mine likes 7828 with 200 gr bullets and H4350 with 180's. |

| Unfortunately I have never had much luck with 7828, so my cubbard is bare.
Gave H4831SC and @71 grains 4 shots went into .656 c2c. If it would do that every time, even in the heat of summer, I'd be done!
H1000 showed promise also...but there is basically no data for that powder in a H&H and a 180 grain bullet. Even at the maxiimum, I bet velocity will be low. |

Of the three you've listed, I'd bet on RL22 |

| Before settling on a load, see how many reloads the cases will stand. PFL resize is your friend with the .300H&H -- 70 grains H4831 with a 200-grain SPEER worked on my first kudu but I decided it was too hot for my 721.

| I've had excellent results with IMR 7828 SSC, but either H4831 or RL-22 should do well. H1000 is a strange powder for which the data appear very inconsistent, so I've never used any.
Among the three powders you have, I would put the most faith in the RL-22 to generate good velocities and accuracy. It is NOT consistent in burning speed from lot to lot, but if you stick with a single lot you'll be fine. Always rework your load if it is necessary to change lots with this powder. |

| 70 gr. RL 22 and 180 NP produce very good groups in my no 1. No idea on velocity as I don't have a chrono. |

| My son had one built with the same M70 classic/Lilja combo. Tried RL-22 and H4831SC with the 180 Partition with barely acceptable results, finally tried H4350 and got consistent groups under an inch. Quit there and took it hunting. |

| +1 for RL-22 Tried just about every powder mentioned on this thread but mine likes RL-22 w/AB 200s the best. Jim fur, feathers, & meat in the freezer "Pass it on to your kids" |

| All I ever use is H4831, shoots great with 165's, 180's and 220's. |

| The previous owner said this pre 64 300 H&H shot well with 190 grain Hornady’s and IMR 4350. I tried 190 Hornady match and I was very pleased with the results. I am loading 190 Hornady hunting bullets and will try them next trip. That is a nine shot group, normally I shoot ten, but one of the rounds got misplaced. Three shot groups prove little to nothing, but get the round count up, you can start believing that you have a good load. Only six shot registered with my Chrony. I had the thing as far as the cable would allow but all that powder crossing the screens messes up the sensors. |

| I built a 300 H&H on a pre 64 M70 action w/#2 lilja @24". I've had great luck with barnes 180 TTSX's and 71g of RL 22, average vel. is 3050fps.The echols legend stock handles the recoil very well. |

I'm thinking 180 Partitions at about 3000fps. I have Reloader 22, H4831SC and H-1000.
Anyone have some favorites?
Ongwe, Just wondering if you had some more results to report? I just picked up a Boddington version of the Ruger No. 1 (The Kudu) which is a .300H&H caliber. I was going to start load dev't with 180gr Partitions and H4831 and/or IMR7828 SSC. |

| Sorry, I didn't see this quicker...
Have only gotten to the range with it twice, once when it was too windy to learn much and another time when the mirage was kicking my butt! That said...
My chamber has a short throat and seems to get to 3000fps a little quicker than some I have read about. 65 grains of H4350 or 70 grains of H4831SC will get a 180 grain bullet to 3000-3050fps and both have shot into about an inch several times. Without the help of gusty winds or wavering mirage I think either will get me to my goal. |

| Thanks! I've got two pounds of H4831 but need to use it first for my .300WM which I'll be taking to Africa this summer. Should be more than a pound left over however.
I've also got 3 lbs of 7828 and will give it a go too I guess as I've no other use for it at the moment. I'll let you know the results. |

| I hear ya...
I had hoped to take the 300 and a 375 H&H to Namibia this summer, but the 300 is still in the white and rather than rush around and get it ready ASAP, I'm going to reserve the powder and bullets I have for a 300 Weatherby instead.
Oh well, there will be other trips! |
