Start very low

Power Pistol is a high pressure powder in all auto pistols

Not really a cast bullet powder

This is from Extreme bullets:

"Our Copper Plated Bullets can be run at mid-range jacketed velocities or higher end lead velocities. We do not recommend velocities over 1500 FPS (Feet Per Second) and only a light taper crimp."

Like Berry's, Extreme bullets are copper plated as well.

I load power pistol in my 40's with Extreme 165 RNFP. Shoots very well in Glock and HK. Follow Mr. Ted's advice and you'll do well.

I have loaded and shot a lot of plated bullets and pushed them about as hard as a jacketed bullet without any problems. My R.Lee manual shows 6.3Min-6.9Max grains of PowerPistol with a jacketed bullet and 6.5-6.9 grains of PP with a plated bullet. I have shot PP in the 40S&W but used 155 grain bullets, jacketed, lead and plated. This powder gave me the better performance in this cartridge over Win231, which I will say the 231 wasn't shabby by any means.

I love Power Pistol for my .40 & 9mm loads.

With my .40's I'm using both plated and hard cast 180g and running them hot through about 3 .40's.

I would start about 6.5g and see what works best for you from there on. I'm using 7.2g which is above book but love the accuracy and the power with that load. As you know you need to find out what your shooter will handle and what you want it to do. I've taken mule deer with it. It does produce some recoil but every time you pull the trigger on a round you are going to get some recoil, guaranteed. The object is to concentrate on the shot and hit what you are aiming at.

It's like being a receiver in football catching the ball over the middle. You know you are going to get hit so why not catch the ball and have something to show for the hit.

That 7.2 load will put it up there like the Buffalo Bore and Corbon rounds and for SD you may/may not want additional recoil that may hinder you follow up shots. OR you may like it and shoot it for SD.

While I realize that my 10mm Auto is NOT a 40S&W I stop at 8.0 gr of PP. Even in my STI full framed 6" slide and heavy pistol it is a handful.

I do like PP though as it burns clean and gives me good speed and low SD over the chrony.
I prefer to keep the recoil manageable so as to improve my ability to stay on target and not punish myself.

Just my humble opinion and YMMV.

From Berries web site;
quote:
Currently published load data is limited to some calibers by Accurate, Western Powders and Hodgdon. We are working with these companies to get data published for all of our bullets.

We recommend using hard cast load data or start with mid-range jacketed data. Make sure data is below 1250fps unless you are using a Thick-Plated bullet that we list a higher max velocity for like the 9mm 124gr HBRN-TP that can be shot to 1500fps in open class guns like a .38 Super. Keep in mind that since our plated bullet has the same pressure curve as a hard cast bullet, the published cast data will be very close to what you will get with our plated bullets. If you use Jacketed data with our plated bullets you can get from 5% - 8% increase in velocity using that data.

Other than the data from Western and Accurate for the 9mm, .40S&W and Hodgdon .40S&W there is no printed data available.

The .40 is NOT a high pressure cartridge in terms of lead bullets and Power Pistol works as well as any powder with the same approximate burn rate.
All I shoot in .40 is cast, and would go to jacketed before plated (just to stir the pot).
175gn L-SWCs are great, but I get better accuracy with 145-155gn L-SWCs.
