I am new to this site and would like to share a load I developed for my Marlin Guide Gun in 45-70. I have used it successfully on big game. It is accurate and works well. Details: Nosler 300 grain partition; 54 grains H4198; F210 primer; gives me 2150 FPS.

Welcome and thanks for sharing the loading data. I like H322 with 405-grain Remington SP for my 45-70. Have fun!

I have been loading the 45-70 a long time in the Marlin, and the best load for hunting I have used is Reloader 7 ar 51.8 350 GN Hornady FN Fed Match 210GM Primers Fed Nickle Cases Crimp Cases with Lee Factory Crimp Die Prior to this load the one I used for years was the same Primer, bullet, case, but IMR 3031 at 53.0 grains. All excellent loads for game up to Moose, and accuracy less than MOA at 100 yards, less recoil than 400/405 grain bullets and less meat damage than 300 grain bullets, the best all around bullet for the 45-70 Marlin.

Great gun isn't it? I use 55 grains of Reloader 7 over a 300 grain cast flatnosed bullet out of the RCBS mould. Shoots about 2 inches routinely, sometimes down to 1.5 if I do my part. Puts a hole in Bambi that is golf balled size, but never shot anything bigger with it. I suspect there's little on the continent that it wouldn't kill, but might not be a first choice for really big stuff. The load is stouter than 454 Casull that everyone touts as really big game medicine. Work up to that load, and don't use it in weaker guns. Load well below max from Lyman manual. My Guids gun shoots the same Nosler Partition under an inch and around 2100 fps (2091 chronographed) with 62.5 grains of Benchmark powder. Bob257

I had alot of luck using Varget and 350gr-H. Very accurate, power, and a little better on recoil end. The Hodgon manual has alot of hot loads in it.
