Trying to figure out where I should quit. Whats the heaviest load you have fired with this combo and 300gr Nosler FN? Thinking I should quit at 43gr.

Wow, surprised no one loads 45-70 here heavy.

I use RL7 at 49-50gr with a 350 gr FN . 4198 loads should be a few grains less, in the Marlin, anyway. They sure do flatten deer, but I haven't chrony'd them-should be about 2000fps.

56.2gr H4198 and the 300gr NP provides a little over 2400fps....FWIW.

I just called Marlin. I asked if garrett rounds were safe in 1895 Marlin 45-70. Cause from experience, I learned never ask about reloading from them or smith and wesson. He said yes garretts are safe, but then when I asked the difference between 450 and 444 and 45-70 he tried to say there is a difference. I asked was it the lockup, or action, or what? He never would say, he just kept saying there is a difference. I gave up. But if Garrett rounds are safe, then I think it would be safe up to 50gr of 4198. Maybe I am wrong.
