Does anyone have some good load/bullet(150 gr.) combinations to start with for 30-06. I have used 59 gr. of IMR 4350 with Speer 150 gr. bullets in the past but would like to improve from the results I get with this load.

My Winchester M70 shoots less than 1 inch groups using 57 grains of IMR 4350 and the Hornady 165 grain SST-IB bullets. Chronograph showa a muzzle velocity over 2800 fps.

52.0 gr of IMR-4064 with a Federal LR primer. Use a 150 gr. Ballistic Tip or Hornady Interbond. Start a little lower on the powder and work up. This load shoots 1/2 to 5/8 inch groups regularly at 100 yards out of my '03 Springfield MKII. It chronos right about 3000 fps from that 24-inch barrel.

Reloder 19 is outstanding. H414 is also a staple with the 150-grain bullet and is supposed to give great speeds.

Personally, I use Varget a 150-grain bullet.

I'm sure just about any powder between IMR 3031 and Reloder 19 would give good results in a .30-06.

Felcher--Old Lyman manuals did list 4350 as the accuracy powder for 30-06 and 150 grainers-but I'll throw in with Calif Hunter that 52.2 grains of 4064 does better in mine. That is max or close to it so I'd start lower and work up. I do like the 150 grain bullets in 30-06 and even when I hunted moose that's what I used. Many folks will say it's too light for moose--but the one my wife shot and the one I shot didn't say that.

I like RL22 and 165s. With around 60-61 gns, I've gotten sub 1" with my two Mausers and .3ish in my son's Rem 721.

I've been using 58 IMR 4831 with the 165 Speer SPBT in my Model 70. Shot into 1 1/4" at 100 yds with OPEN [Smile] sights. Now with a scope it's about 3/4". [Big Grin]

Regards,

Felch, I use 50.5grs. of Varget with CCI LR primer, and 150NBT, five shots will hover around 1/2moa, and is good for about 2940fps from 22" bbl, with the 150s, powders in the Varget, RE15, 4064 range would be the ones to try first, yes, RE19 is the most accurate powder tested for the 150 in the Nosler manual, but the lowest charge was the most accurate, for a rather low velocity, really the '06' isn't that fussy from the loading I've done, I just like Varget for the 150s, but will be testing RE15 in the future, Jay

Alliant RL19 works very well for both 150 grain BT and PT Noslers as well as for 180 grain bullets. The rifle is a Blaser BBF95.

In a bolt action 30-06 you cannot go wrong with IMR 4350 or Reloader 19.

I can squezz a little better accuracy from Reloader 19.

RIGHT UP MY ALLEY.
I use 57 to 59 grs of H4350 with the Nosler 165. Start with the 57 and work up. The barrel on my current '06 (24' S.S. shilen) likes 58. I have used the hornady, failsafe and the nosler all interchangably with the same recipe;
Federal G.M. brass
cci 250 primer
58 gr H4350
Sub. 1/2" in this barrel and 2900fps.
