I bought a CZ in 458 magnun a few weeks ago and I have been reloading and shooting with the powders I had on hand. I want to buy powder for this cartridge and am looking for advice on what are considered the optimum powders.

H-4895 has given me excellent results with 500gr. bullets. 74gr. gives me 2080fps from a 20" barrel.
I'd start at about 71gr. This with 500gr. Hornady soft, R-P cases and Fed 215M primers.

Primer: Winchester WLR
Case: Winchester
Firearm: Winchester 70

In the powders I have tried AA2460 is so far the best. I would rate H322 the second. With AA2460 start at least 10 percent low and work up as I have seem it vary quite a bit from lot to lot. I couldn't even get close to the loading level that Hornady lists for their AA2230 no where close so beware that that powder varies greatly I have found from previous tests in other calibers.

Just for the devil of it please try AA2460. Little or no compression with the Hornady 500 RN. A standard primer is all you need too. Also works well with the 405 gr Remington bullet.

Had a Ruger #1H Tropical in .458 with a VXIII 1.5X5 Leupold.Best group was 5 shots in one ragged hole at 100yds.Using 500grn. Hornady round nose,74 grns.H4895&Win.Lg.Rifle Mag primers.Loaded some 450grn. Barnes X's,but couldn't keep the group's under 2inches@100yds.Not good enough for my taste.Shot a spike bull with the 500's through both front shoulder's,talk about light's out baby.Entry wound same diameter as bullet, exit about the size of my fist, but you could eat right up to the hole.Wish I had it back.
