I just bought a 300 H&H. I load for a 30-06 among others. I have several great loads using IMR 4350. I need a new can of powder. I need your suggestions for loads for the 300 using 4350 or other suggestions. At this time I have 150,165 and 180grn bullets. thanks capt david [Confused]

Look at www.imrpowder.com/rifle/300hhm_index.html

Use the 4350 for now as you can see that it's excellent and when you go to the store buy a can of 4831 for the .300.

I make cases out of the .375 H&H. Then I can set the headspace just right on the shoulder.

Cp'n David,
I have been piddling around with the 300HH most recently and will share what little I've learned, with a nod to Steve, who invited you to his web page.

4350 works pretty well. AA 4350 180Bal Tip and WW WLMR primer will duplicate factory load velocity at 2850fps and is accurate.

The most accurate and fastest powder I've found is AA3100. The new manual indicates current 3100 is a bit hotter, but the old manual puts a max at 78grs. At 68.5 grain of 3100 with 180Partition 215 primer I got 2719fps. 75gr IS TOO HOT! I would back off a full grain when using magnum primers. This will still give you good velocity.

69grains of RL22 gave me 2825fps with 180BT and 210M primer. This might be a good powder to play around with.

These powders are all in the catagory of 4831, which I have not tried, but has given me good performance in my 30-338.

By the way 73 grains of 3100 behind a 200gr Partition gave me 2800 fps with a WW WLMR primer. Ku-dude

Just use 4831 and 215 primers. I don't use AA powder due to it being inconsistant.

Get Ray Atkinson in on this. His loads do over 3000 fps with 180's.

I load 95% 180 grain bullets but do load a few 200 grain slugs ocasionally. Both of my H&H's like good old H4831,even the slightly faster IMR4831 works well too. I've never really done well with any of the 4350's as its a tad too fast. Great with lighter slugs though.
Reloader 19 works well for the 180's , but Reloader 22 REALLY shines with my best velocity and best accuracy. Especially with the 200's.

I get my best velocity and accuracy with "Old Surplus 4831", the stuff that O'Conner used and its not available anymore..

I can get a little over 3000 FPS with it...I can get 2900 with 4350...all with 180 gr. bullets...

I get 2900 plus just a tad, with the 200 gr. Nosler..26" barrel.

All loads are about 1.5 grs. below my rifles max..

As I recall you could get this velocity with the old Norma MRP also...Perhaps based on this you could get near 3000 or so with the RL-22

The 300 H&H will better the 300 Win. with the heavy 200 gr. and 220 Gr. bullets, I guess that is because you have to seat the long 200 gr. plus bullets into the 300 Win. powder space...I have not been able to duplicate the 300 H&H's vel. with the 300 Win using the heavy bullets, but the difference is insugnificant at less than 100 FPS.
