I've got a brand new Springfield Amory on day 2 of my 10 day waiting period.

Plan on using Nosler 150 gr B-tips. Any advice on a powder choice for smooth operation and acuracy?

What kind of shooting are you doing? For my .308 Garand I'm running 44 grains of RL15 with a 150 SMK and Lake City cases and WLR primers just under 2800 FPS (2797 avg) to equate ball velocity. I did a test batch with CAVIM brass that ran 2725 with the same load. I'd play with 2750 to 2800 FPS, the Nosler may run a little different than the Sierra.

I haven't tried Varget but I know shooters loading it, too.

A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work.

M1A is .308.

I used 41.5 gr. 4895 w 168 gr. SMK's (before Varget came out) for match shooting.

Also liked 748 ball powder.

Start low & work up; YMMV.

hm

45gr or 46gr of BLC-2 works well. The latter is supposed to be M80 Ball equivalent.

Great loads here and a good article posted by Mike70560. I got real, I mean REAL lucky a while back and scored over 3000 cases of Lake City match brass 7.62X51 (308) vintage 1979 once shot. This changed my regime from IMR 4895 to Win 760 and further refining to AA2520 @ 43.5 grains tossing out an SMK 168 Gr. bullet. Probably the most accurate round I have seen for my M1/A National Match rifle. For my standard M1/A it seems to prefer IMR 4895 or Win. 760 tossing the same SMK 168..

Good luck...
