Hello fellas. I Recieved a box of 154gr. SST's for christmas, along with a pound of IMR7828. I have never used these bullets in anything, I have always been a sierra fan. I plan on using them for whitetail, and black Bear at ranges from 25yds-200yds. What are some good places to start with RL22, H4831, and IMR7828? What type of velocities should i expect? At the moment, H4831 is my best powder working with 175gr. sierras. I am basically getting the courage to try the SST because all the rave on them(BT's) on deer. I have herd that if drove to fast, they are useless at any range under 100yds. Is this true? I am also a fan of a lung shot. I try my hardest to hit the deer couple inches behind the shoulder when possible. If i were to find my self in a situation where i would have to take a shoulder shot, can these bullets be trusted to penatrate the shoulders, and do the internal damage?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Right now, I am basically just looking for some starting loads...or loads that have worked good for you. I have all deer season to work on the velocity. I also am looking for some general info on the SST bullet particurly in 154gr. 7mm cal. Thanx again....and happy New Year to all of yas'

I drive 140gr ballistic tips out of my 7mmstw's at 3500fps.At 100 yards they are still exiting deer that weigh over 300lbs with lung shots. At 100 yards my bullets are going faster than your 154gr ssts are leaving the muzzle so they should exit deer at any distance you shoot them at.I have found the best results using r-22 or imr 4350 when using 150gr bullets in the 7mm mag.

I load the 154gr.FB for my Ruger and it loves them. Sub " mostly, best being 3/8".
I'm going to load some for my friend next week.

I havn't tried the SST yet but soon will. I have killed with the regular Interlocks and they have penatrated great on deer size game. All exited. I drove one through a mountain goats shoulders and dropped it where he was bedded down. If you hit bone expect meat damage but they are leathal. I would assume the SST will be leathal also.

Two powders worked equaly as good for me.
IMR4831 and RL22
