Anyone ever use reloader 15 in a 243?
I"ve had good results with rel 19, but I have none left and have a couple of tubs of rel 15 I don"t need.
I"m not into experimenting without data, so I wondered if anyone has used it with 100 gr bullets?
I have seen loads for lighter bullets, but I need 100 gr to be deer legal.
If I can"t get any advice I"ll go back to varget.
good shooting

There are some loads using RL 15 on the Reloading Pages of this site.

The Lee Manual also lists a starting Load of 33.5 grains and a max load of 36.5 with 80 gr Jacketed Bullets.

Everything I say is fully substantiated by my own opinion.

I built a couple 243 rifles and finally took them to the range today and did some tests on brass life.

I mainly used H4350, which is nearly interchangeable with Re19.

With 100 gr I was getting 2975 fps average chrono on a load that will give 6 firings with no loosening of the primer pocket, 43 gr and jammed into the lands.

If I did 45 gr, the extractor groove opened by 001" on the first shot, and the primer was easy insertion, but the pocket stayed the same size and did not fall out for 5 shots with the same piece of brass.

87 gr 3137 fps
65 gr 3510 fps

You need 100 gr here in WA state as well.
Last season I saw a young woman with a .243 get a white tail buck that dropping nearly where shot and another young woman with a .243 shot a big bull elk that went 30 feet before dropping.
Why am I carrying around a 300WM?

Sam, RL15 is really too fast for a 243 with 100gr heads, it will work, but not very well. It is perfect for the 308 - probably why you have it.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

I"ve had good results with rel 15 in 308, esp with the 180 gr bullets.
I might just stick to varget as I don"t want to buy anything at the minute(hopefully fleeing the country shortly!)
good shooting

Sam, I have some N160 here which is perfect for the 243/100gr. You are welcome to it if you are stuck.

The 243 and the 270 seem to do well with similar powders.
