I see that Ruger and CZ both chamber "sporting" rifles in this cailbre. Does anyone know what size there bores are ?
.308 ? or .311 ? What i really mean is do they shoot normal .30 cal bullets like we use in .30-30 .308 etc ?

What kind of bullet weights and velocity could a hand loader expect ?
Seems to me this calibre would make a better "mininum" calibre for deer than .243 win for youngster or recoil sensitive shooters.
One would imagine A 100 gn .30 cal bullet would have better "killing/knockdown" power than a 100 gn .243 bullet.
And of course up could step up to 125 gn

Any one got sporting data? Certinally looks a most interesting calibre........

I had a Mini-30, and it was a .308". They made the leade so that ammo with .311" bullets could be used.

In my SKS, I use the Speer .311 180-grain RN and 27 grains of H335. This gives right at 2000 FPS, and comes close to duplicating the original 1895 .30/30 Win. load.

25 grains of Accurate 1680 gives me 2300 fps in my little SKS, with a 123 grain bullet. Lapua commercial ammo gives me 2450.

The SKS is designed for a little fatter bullet, usually .309 or .310. As stated, some commercial rifles are designed for .308.

Your idea is an interesting one. Just be sure the check against alternatives... you may find something more conventional that works better.

Englander: CZ has a regular forum at http://www.czforum.com/ which should answer this question for you as it appears no one here has a bolt gun in this caliber.

his is a tremendous little caliber in the right package. I have a Vixen action Sako in 7.62x39 and a Colt upper for an AR. I have killed many whitetails and a mountain lion with this cartridge and 125 and 150 grain Nosler ballistic tips. The results are wonderfull and the recoil is definately childs play. It is a very serious option for fun.

20 grains of AA 1680 under a pulled .308 tracer is loads of fun. The .311 bore stabilizes them just fine but seating for an SKS requires a Lee Factory Crimp die because you're actually crimping in the ogive to fit the magazine. Don't know if that's the same in a CZ 527.
