It seems like every time I go to a shop this powder is available and sometimes little else. For instance last week a Cabelas store I went to only had 4007 and 7828ssc on the shelf. What is the happiness level with this powder on rifle loads? Thanks

IMR7828 and the newer SSC is a very well established Magnum rifle powder. It has use's as well in many other ,smaller caliber rifles. It has a proven a fine powder in .30-06 for many years. Gulf of Tonkin Yacht Club NRA Endowment Member President NM MILSURPS

IMR 7828 SSC is on the slow side for some rifle cartridges, but because its small grains pack tightly, you can get a lot of it into a case. I find that it requires about 2-3% more (by weight) than H4831 for similar velocities and does well in any cartridge/bullet combination in which H4831 is suitable. With "non-magnum" cartridges this is usually with heavy-for-caliber bullets. I have found some excellent loads using 7828SSC for .243/100, .25-06/115, .270/130, .280/150, .300 H&h/180. It is also very good in .300 Win, 7mm RM, etc. The short grains feed quite dependably and accurately through my Redding powder measure. I also like IMR 4007, which is also a short-grained powder. Applications using 4064, 4320, or 4350 are usually adaptable to 4007.

The Nosler manual list it for 243 Win and larger cartridges---generally---w/ the heavier bullets in each. My 264WM loves it w/ 140s

I have found 7828 ssc to be virtually interchangeable wit RL22 in my 416 Rigby.
