I just received my new unprimed brass in the mail and was more than surprised when I opened it up. It came packed in a box in the bulk Remington 100ct. bags. Almost every neck was slightly distorted and the walls were dinged from bouncing around in transit (thanks UPS). After a pass through the resizing die the neck problem was fixed.

I was going to fire form the new brass to my chamber so I could remove the dings and neck size only going forward. I have heard many people say you can fire form with a small load of pistol powder and toilet paper which would be most advantageous from an economical standpoint. Any ideas?

Unless you are forming a new caliber, ie. necking up or down, just run them through the FL sizer, load and shoot.

I have never fireformed new brass for the caliber I am shooting.

Good shooting,

HL

HL is right. Just load them like you would normally.

Running them through the expander is all you need to do usually.
You didn't tell us what kind of rifle or what round you are working with but all else being good, forget about the pistol powder.. load 'em up and shoot.

Why do they call it common sense, when it is so uncommon??

just what the guys said - low loads of pistol powder won't fireform anyway - you need high pressure loads to fireform correctly

my bags of Rem brass have all sorts of jacked up necks when I buy em, all I do is FL size em and load like normal.I would not even worry about it unless you are talking about pancaked necks, then I would send the brass back. I am loading RUM brass. The first firing with your normal load will clean up all other dings. I do use a touch of Imperial die wax on the inside of the necks, just to help things along.

Well good for you you dont have to buy any parts or send the brass back. Since you dont have to do anything stupid to yer brass, just load it. Dont forget to post your load development in the other forum, some folks could use the info. is it a 375?

Yep. Should have it back from the gunsmith in a few weeks. I have been collecting dies, brass, powder, yada yada to keep me busy while I wait. Think I might start off with the 300 gr. TSX's and some Accubonds for giggles.

Oh wait, I remember you. Werent you the guy asking for more laods on my load development page? Those Accubonds sure shoot straight. 300gr partition Nosler seconds going for pretty cheap too. I have been procrastinating on that one, and the data 86 powder too. I got those accubonds for practice, and my stash is almost gone!!

Yeah...was trying to find all the load data I could. It is amazing when you start fishing for data...how many sources that are available. Most of the powder manufacturers have it posted, or will send it to you upon request and some of the bullet manufacturers have data posted.

Should be a fun little round to play with and I am interested to see what the gun can do.
