Hate to sound stupid, but I have always used dippers and trickler and now I bought a dispenser. My question is when charging into the scale pan, how do you keep from getting powder all over? I bought it to speed up things, but I get powder all over everytime I throw a charge. Thanks.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT? I'VE USED 2 DIFFERENT KINDS OF POWDER MEASURES ANR NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM GETTING THE POWDER INSIDE THE CASE. THE POWDER MEASURE I'M USEING NOW IS A LEE PERFECT POWDER MEASURE. IT WORKS GREAT AND IT'S PRICED RIGHT. IT'S NOT AT ALL STUPID TO ASK QUESTIONS AT THIS FORUM. LOTS OF GREAT GUYS HERE TO HELP YOU FIND SOLUTIONS. LIKE THE MAN SAID "THIS PLACE ROCKS".
If I'm understanding your problem correctly maybe you could make a drop tube out of some clear plastic tubing. Attach one end to the bottom of your dispenser and cut a piece long enough so that you can place the pan against the bottom of the tube without interfering with the lever of the dispenser, then throw the powder charge. Should "trap" the powder in the tube then gently lower the pan and weigh the charge.
I am talking about dropping the charge into the scale pan. I weigh each charge, it would be alright if I were just going into the case, but those little scale pans are shallow and powder flies out. Sorry if I was unclear. I used to use the dippers to get close and add a little to get there, but it is alot more time consuming. I'll try that Hold'm, thanks. Sorry tasco, didn't mean to get you all confused, so you can relax now.
HEHEH I'M ALWAYS RELAXED. CONFUSED SOMETIMES BUT THAT NEVER EXCITES ME MUCH. WHY DO YOU WEIGH EACH CHARGE? I'VE CHONOGRAPHED ME HANDLOADS AND THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN BETTER THAN FACTORY LOADS AS FAR AS STANDARD DIVIATION. I GIVE THE PATIENT GUY WHO TAUGHT ME HOW TO RELOAD CREDIT FOR THAT.
I do not think that there is an advantage to use a powder measure instead of a dipper when you weigh every charge anyway (where I ask like TASCO: is it worth it ?).
It is a good practice to weigh-check any thenth thrown charge though. And here I use a cartridge case as a shuttle between powder measure and scale.
