Just got a new Tikka Tac in 223 and was wondering what ball powder you guys like to load with for the 223. I am planning on shooting 55 grain BT's with this and hate loading stick powders.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I use Varget and it meters just dandy

H335 works nice with 50-55 Gr. bullets for me.
I also hear good things about Ramshot's TAC powder, but have not tried it yet.

Another option is H322 , it's stick powder , but it is very small stick powder and it meters pretty well. Also works fantastic accuracy wise , even though it can't keep up with the slower stuff in the velocity department.

Whats your load for BL-C(2) ?
I always thought this powder might work better than I have given it credit for. Tried it a few times with only OK results. I always used standard WSR primers , maybe that's the problem ?
Are you using a mag primer ?

I've used 27 grains of BL-C(2) with the Sierra 50 grain SP with good results.

H-335 (the commercial version of WC-844) is the powder that was specifically formulated for the .223. It works beautifully in all of my .222-family guns, including a .222, three .223's, and two .222 Magnums.

AA-2230 is a very similar ball powder and would almost certainly serve as well.

I have a jug of WC-846 (spec BL-C2), and while I'm sure it would do well in the .223's I reserve it for use in the larger cases of the .30's where the does well but the burning characteristics of H-335 become a little dicey.

As to non-ball powders, 4895 is excellent and meters nicely.

I have had excellent results with W 748.

26.3 gr h335 & a 55 gr nosler BT

AA 2460 is just about AA2230C, and works wonders with my Savage .223.

I use regular primers...I (had) 6 guns and all shot the same load very well....27.5 grain BL-C(2) and a 50 grain TNT.

I used: 25gr/4895 til the barrel burned out after 6000 rnds in .222mag, same thing.

Rebarreled to .223 and now using AA2200/23gr. Only problem I have with it is the Lee Perfect????(no it ain't!!) measure keeps binding up and leaks quite a bit. Far as shooting, it's a great powder and was cheap at $60/jug. I got four jugs and used them all, am working on the bottom half of the last one and wish I had ten more jugs of it. But, looks like I'm SOL again.

makes 3000-3100 in my 26", and 35/40gr @3640fps.
Burns clean for me too. Ran a bunch at 25gr til I discovered after a blown primer I'd gotten my charge's mixed up and was loading 2gr over max. OUCH!!!! Yeah, I know better, relearned that lesson to the tune of a $40 ejector replacement.

I use a lot of ball powder in my PD loads. BL-C (2), H335 or the surplus equivalents. The BL-C (2) at 26.5 gr. with a 50 gr. V-Max gives me very near 3400 fps out of the 26" barrel in my Remington VSSF and is .5 MOA or better.

Went over all the data again and it appears that Accurate 2520 came out on top. roger

I copy'd the H-335 and Sierra load that Les Baer supposedly uses to accuracy test his AR-15's with. It loads just great on my Dillon 650.
With 69gr bullets I had great luck with AA-2230.
The 80grs like VV-150.

Try H-335 first. It pours like water through a measure and has been very accurate in about a dozen different 223's I've tried it in.............DJ

I would be very carefull with the wc846 I have notice some very great pressure differants with it. One lot I had to drop 30 some percent to get a safe load.

H-335, WW-748, WC-846, AA-2230, 2230C, 246, 2520, 2700

Vectan SP7. outstanding with heavy, 75 -80 gr., bullets. Cheap too.
