Anybody else bought new win primers lately. My stash of federal is getting down so I picked up some win wlr and wlrm the other day. They're all the copper colored ones that seat super ez on new brass and fit too loose on magnum cases out there at 5-6 firings. Is this the only way they make em now??

I use Winchester primers alot and Yea some brass they seat real easy(loose) but Ive never had one leak or blow out the back, maybe they expand and seal real well, they are good primers even though the seat easy I just scored box of 1000 cci 200s for $34 today, they seat alot firmer/tighter than WWs

I use the new style Win. primers and never had one blow out yet. "The right to bear arms" insures your right to freedom, free speech, religion, your choice of doctors, etc. ....etc. ....etc.... -----------------------------------one trillion seconds = 31,709 years-------------------

Been a while since you bought primers? It was around 1999 that Winchester changed to the "brass finish" primers. I called Winchester and asked what was different. They made the primers more sensitive. "To combat off center firing pin strikes" All well and wonderful except the WSR pierce at loads that never bothered the old nickle plated WSR. I really had to cut loads in the .223, like a grain and a half, to stop the primer piercing. Since they became more sensitive, and I have had two out of battery slamfires in Garands with Federals, the most sensitive primer on the market, I was not interested in finding out if the new more sensitive primer would now slamfire in a Garand. Good thing was in the late 90's CCI came out with their Mil Spec primers and that is what I am using in the .223, 308 and 30-06 gas guns. They are thick and are hard to pierce. I have used the brass WLR in bolt rifles, I don't push loads hot enough to dish a bolt rifle firing pin.

Whats with that federal packaging of primers? They are in a bigger box and primers packaged on there edge. Seems like they will fly all over the floor when you try and put them in your hand primer tray

JD- That's why I only expose one row at a time as I'm emptying them into my primer tray.

IIRC the larger package came about after someone had one of the old boxes detonate.
