Have just obtained a bunch of heavy , steal jacketed .429 solids to load up for PH and river guides handguns.

Always had 270grn in the past... does anybody have any good loads for 44 mag with 300 (0r 320) grn bullets using S265, WW296 or AA5744?

How's the recoil in your 329PD with big loads?

Similar to the 500?

That is one of the pest handling revolvers ever!! Cool

Ganyana, my favorite load is 20.5 grains of H110 (reported to be very similar to WW296) and 300 grain LEAD bullets. Please adjust as appropriate.

Mac...a 270grn bullet at 1350fps out of that 329 comes under the heading of 'significant emotional events' - like first bonk, first sky dive etc. When being attacked it forces one to do a "cost / Benefit" Analysis...which is going to hurt me more... the lion/leopard/buff or my revolver...do I really, really want to shoot this poor animal or should I just let it have a chew Eeker

I've loged some time with the snub nosed 500 with comp. The 425 factory lead bangers are "noteworthy" but not intimidating or uncontrollable at all.

The 329PD is a Porsche Turbo to the 500 as Humvee..... Big Grin

I've had good success with 21.5 grains of H 110 over a 320 grain hard cast gas check in my 7 1/2" barrel Ruger Super Blackhawk. Muzzle velocity is around 1300 FPS.

+1 on W296
Worked up to around 20.5gr of W296 in my S&W Mountain Gun, it's accurate and controllable with 300gr XTP's, muzzle blast is bearable from the 4" barrel. The 325gr cast bullets a friend gave me didn't seem too bad when loaded with a similar load of W296, till one of my shooting buddies tried it and we all noticed that none of us could keep both hands on the gun when it was in full recoil! Big Grin

Both loads are much more pleasant from my 6" M629 with the underlugged barrel and non fluted cylinder. Wink

Steel solids? I'd be curious as to how they penetrate compared to the usual jacketed / hard cast fodder.

I have been using 21 or 21.5 grains of 296 with 320 grain bullets since JD Jones came out with it in the 1980s. During summer the 21.5 sometimes seems a little hot however. Works good.

Thanks Guys. Because of the thickness of the steel Jacket the 300grn bullets are a bit longer than Horniday 300grn Hollow points I have, so will try 20grns WW296 this afternoon and work up from there.
