Swedging .426 to .423
I will soon have my 10.75x68 and was comtemplating some plinking ammo. Is is possible to swedge Win 44-40 jacketed ammo at .426 diameter to .423? If possible, who can make the die? Thanks, Bob

I've never tried this, so take my suggestion with a grain of salt, but if the 0.426" bullets will chamber in your gun, just shoot them as is. The oversize bullets will raise pressure slightly but not enough to loose sleep over.

Bob, you can even do this w/ .429 300gr bullets. I got a lube/size die from Lee. Get a .427 die & a .423 die & you can size in steps using a good lube like Imoerial sizing wax or sim. They make very accurate plinking bullets, 1.5moa, for a fraction of the cost of buying 350gr Woodleigh & about half the cost of 300gr Hawks.

Thanks guys. Fred, Midway has the .427 dies but not .423. Goes all the way down to .419. Did you order directly from Lee? Will these dies work with jacketed bullets also? Thanks again, Bob-

Yes, I ordered directly from Lee, I think it was something like $20. Yes, I have sized down 300grJHP Hornady & shot them over 75gr VV150 for 1 1/2" groups out @ 100yds. I'm going to try the 265gr Hornady & see if I get any accuracy out of that. Nice comfortable load for all day plinking.

Yeah, .404 jeffery, I had one made last year & love it. You can also make brass for it from RUM brass in a pinch.

This is basically correct, but ONLY IF THE CASE MOUTHS EXPAND SUFFICIENTLY on firing to freely release the oversize bullet - .003" is only the thickness of one sheet of notebook paper.

I wouldn't push them much beyond 1800-1900fps. 77gr of RL19 will between 1900&2000fps & still fill the case a bit.
