20 gr of H110. The rest of your powders are too quick burning for optimal results...except maybe for 2400 and still.....

This seems like some good input. I've used H110 out of a couple Ruger Vaqueros in 44 Mag and 45 Colt that were on the heavy end using 300 grain Laser Casts. Velocity was great, performance should be great, and recoil was great!!! I also have a S&W 629 but have been more conservative in it's loading as far as the hot loads are concerned. I can recall reading some stab and blast magazine once about the use of real heavy loads in this shooter due to the thickness of the cylinder walls. I know there are opinions on both sides of this issue. Those Ruger Vaqueros can be loaded very stiff and the frame design of the Vaquero helps to dissipate some of the recoil. I've also wanted to shoot a deer, elk, or bear with one of those shooters but never had the two together at the same time. I've just saved the faster burning powders that you've mentioned for more of the plinking loads with 240-250 grain slugs around 850-900 fps. Comfortable to shoot and can be very accurate. Of the powders mentioned I would think that you would find the best results using 2400 with that bullet and for sure if you are maxing out the velocity for the load in your 629.

BE is out, Unique only for midrange levels, 900fps or so. Using H110 or 2400 will get you the best vel, your gun will tell you which is more accurate. I have run both w/ the 310grLFPgc by Lee. So what vel levels are you looking for? LIFE IS NOT A SPECTATOR'S SPORT!

I have a 629 6" bbl also. I use IMR-4227. I give up about 50 fps to H110/W296. 1,250 fps the last time I chrono'ed it. Muzzle flip/blast and recoil are MUCH more managable.
