Steve is right, stick with black. I have an original. It was a junker so I rebarreld it to a 45 caliber cartridge based on a shortened 45-70. It is the same length as the original cartridge but slimmer. I found BP loads to be wimpy. I tried mild smokeless loads. The action loosened. Now I have a messed up rifle. Use only black!
