Does anyone on this forum have reliable data for the .243 Win using the Nosler 55 gr Balistic Tip? My manuals are old & the closest I can find is for a 60 grainer. I was thinking of using 45 grains of IMR as a starting load.

Thank You,
WyoJoe

Joe,

There are a few loads in our data for this cartridge on the Reloading section.

depending on rifle and lenght of freebore (in a factory chamber you can't get them out to lands) these tiny bullets can be very accurate. I favor h414 or h380 because they seem to give me repeatable velocity. Nosler reloading#4 lists H414 min 48.5 max52.5... H380 min49.0 max53.0....have had good luck with IMR4895 min40.5 max44.5...hope this helps and like the man said see the reloading pages, lots of info there. By the way they are GREAT groundhog or crow bullets. shot a crow at 210yds and only found feathers and a few pieces. my cousin said it just disappeared....

Oops. I should of said 45 gr of IMR 4350. It just goes to show a person they had better pay attention to the details when reloading.

Thanks Saeed. I did look over the info on the reloading pages. I might try Varget if I can't get a good load with IMR 4350. Looks like Varget gives pretty good performance.

Thanks short243. I appreciate the data. I reload a bit for my .243 but have never used the 55 Nosler BT. I have a priarie dog shoot coming up soon & thought this might be a good bullet to try.

I might also suggest RL-15. It and Varget are almost interchangeable in most applications!

Please let us know how things work out, I've considered loading up a few in my .243 as well!

nosler recommends 49-53 gr of H380,

http://www.nosler.com/243Win-DataPg.html

I used 49 gr of VV N140 instead (fed 210 primers) and got velocities in excess of 4000 fps, accuracy was nothing to write home about though so I haven't really played with it anymore...
