Ok I've just started reloading for my .340 and I want to see what everyone else is doing..I have started with 225gr North fork bullets and I've got some Ok groups..I'm using RL 19 and Fed 215M primers. What I want to know is: should I be using RL 22? Will it increase velocity? Help with accuracy? Or should I stick with RL 19.. Also If I can't get the North Forks to shoot well enough, I have some 225 gr X's and I'm thinking about trying 225 and 210 gr XLC's, I also really like the 230 gr Failsafes so I might try them. So does anyone use these any of these bullets in their .340 and if so what are some loads for them. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

For 225's to 230's:
RL-25 From 86.0 grains to 96.1 grains
Federal 215 Primer

For 210's:
RL-22 From 81.2 grains to 90.5 grains
Federal 215 Primer

FL-19 is okay in the 175's, RL-22 is okay from 200 to 215, and RL-25 for 225 to 275.

ricciardelli,

Just curious, why RL 25? Is it a slower or faster burning than 19 or 22? Or is it more accurate you've found? This is an honest question since I am new to reloading. Thanks

RL-25 is the slowest of the RL series of powders.

If you can find an old Weatherby guide, you can duplicate factory ballistics. For example, 92gr of Norma MRP will duplicate the factory MV of 3250 FPS((52,600 CUP). With 250gr bullet ( Nosler Partition of Hornady) 88gr of MRP yields 3000 fps@ 53,500 CUP or 84.9gr MRP@ 2850fps (49,600 CUP). Sorry no data for 225gr bullets, there were none loaded by Weatherby back in 1985. Jorge

PS: And to all Weatherby haters, their published factory ballistics work as advertised.

Boman: They are duplicate Weatherby factory loads and they have a reputation for being hot. However, given the published CUP pressures I posted, they aren't that bad. I can also tell you that in all my weatherby calibers, they print to the same POI as factory loaded ones. Jorge

Thanks Greybeard,

I'm looking starting and max loads for a 225 gr failsafe, nosler part, and a 210 gr Nosler part? I have been using the Reloader powders but I'll take whatever they list. Thanks Greybeard
