I recently ordered 100 cases from Cabela's. First bag of 50 had 7 split necks or shoulders. I thought WTH maybe i'll have 40 after sizing. Opened the second bag and gave up counting when I found 10 more split necks. Pretty sad because I have generally been a winchester brass guy for 50 plus years.

I'm sure they would be replaced. I have never heard of this happening.

I returned them for a credit. Until QC improves I will not be buying any Winchester brass that I cannot inspect first.

I got the last 2 bags of Winchester brass advertised online here. More than half had shoulder wrinkles, one bag only contained 47 cases, of which, 1 was completely unusable, it had a pleated neck and shoulder.
The other bag had the same wrinkles and had 2 pleated cases and one without a flash hole.
I have never been convinced that Winchester was ever the reloaders friend. Often, their products have appeared to be the 'seconds' off their ammo production line.

Cheers.

I'm hearing more and more these days about defective ammunition and ammunition components. It would seem to have a direct correlation to the panic shortage brought on by socio-political events and the rush by manufacturers to meet the unprecedented demand. When the manufacturing process is rushed, quality control naturally declines. Also, QC inspectors are urged by the bean-counters in the back office to be less discerning in kicking out production runs which would be judged substandard in "normal" times. Let's hope this artificial shortage is nearing an end and manufacturers once again feel the need to respond affirmatively to quality issues raised by their customers.

I wonder if the components are old stock someone is trying to rid themselves of at other's expense. I haven't seen any new production Win or Rem brass in literally years. There did appear to be a QC issue as production ramped up to meet demand several years back (think 2008) but then once the issues became known they just stopped producing as evidenced by the complete lack of new brass. This bad brass was probably in someone's hoard from the time period in question.

Stopped using Winchester brass during the panic when I couldn't find any. I now am using Hornady brass with good results in one of my 25-06's. The other 25-06 I'm using Norma brass.
Both are loaded using 7977.

I've had issues with some newer brass that was not annealed properly at the factory and would split on first firing. I've also had issues with brand new old brass. When the brass is in a hard to find caliber sending it back is not an option. I just anneal it re-size it to correct all the out of round necks and load it. Everything is good after that.
