Gents, I was lloking at the various options for case trimmers, and looking at the powered ones in particular. It struck me that I have not seen one that fits on top of a standard press like some powder dispensers do.. I am thinking that an old die body could be converted to carry a small electric motor from something like a cordless screwdriver such the the "chuck" for the various tools would hang in side the press. In effect the press would act as a mini bench drill if you will. The shell holder would also have to be modified to lock the case so it did not slip as the ram was raised to engage the spinning tool. I think some sort of modification based on Lees trim to length tools would be ideal as that could use their fixed trim to length gauges. I appologise if it been done before, but I have not come across it if it has.... I don't like I have the bits and pieces to try and make this, but I thought some people here might and might enjoy tinkering around with something like this... Regards Pete

Gonhuntin, well there goes my stab at being the ace inventor! Seriously, the Dillion version looks a lot more complicated and expensive. Leave the resizeing part, it is also restricted to just trimming to length. In my minds eye, I envisged being able to swap the cutter for other tools such as flash hole de burrers and uniformers, case miouth chamfering tools ect, maybe even neck turning tools? Curious what you come up with......I have pondered the same thing more than once specially on cases that require considerable trimming. For now I use a drill on my RCBS trimmer for speed.

I use my lathe and an indicator it's about as fast as I can come up with. I just hold the case by hand put the cutter in a collet in the headstock and have a mandrel with a step for small or large primers that goes in the drill chuck in the tail stock. The indicator just measures the tailstock travel. I have also used a drill press with a good quill stop. The ones with the stop anound the handle don't adjust very precise. gunmaker
