Quote: I've heard of the Zediker book and some of the reviews I read tend to give the impression that it's fairly incomprehible given his writing style. Let me know if there are any other suggestions. Thanks

Quote:Hey Slatts, What you really need is access to the "Creighton Audette Load Development Method" which is often refered to as the "Ladder Method". If the Search Function is back on, you can find a lot of information about it right here at AR. The link that ARshutter provides to the Optimum Charge Weight was done by a Rookie Reloader who really thought he could improve on Mr. Audette's Method. All the Rookie did was make about five(as well as I can remember) significant changes to Mr. Audette's Method and claimed it as "his own method" without giving proper credit to Mr. Audette or telling posters where he had made his screwed-up changes. This resulted in down-grading the potential for achieving the best possible accuracy from a firearm. And some of the Rookie's posts were dangerous in that they implied a person could just use a specific charge(with any bullet of the same weight) without needing to develop the Load from below. Totally pitiful! So, if you do go the Rookie route, at least you have been warned. --- I quickly scanned your original link to Developing Loads and noticed the Originator had arrows directing you to the "cross-over" portion of the Sine Wave and refering to it as "Noding". It seems to give the impression that is the point you are trying to Develop your Load for. And in reality, that is totally wrong and here is why: At that point, the tip of the barrel would be at it's "fastest movement" and would provide the most spread for a specific Load. What you actually want to achieve in your Load Development is to have the tip of the muzzle at the very top or bottom (Apogee or Perigee) of the Harmonic as the bullet Exits. That is because the barrel is at it's "slowest movement"(nearly stopped) there, while it is changing direction to swing back the other direction. If you think of the barrel tip moving in an elongated figure "8" pattern, rather than the Sine Wave, it will help you visualize what is really happening. The "8" may be skewed slightly left or right and the Points-of-Impact will reflect that on your Target. The Creighton Audette Load Development Method is the quickest way to find the most accuracy from a specific set of components for a specific firearm. It is so simple, everyone should try it. Though it is possible to use it for Load Development with pistol/revolver Loads and short range rifle Loads(30-30, 444Mar, 45-70, etc.), Mr. Audette's Method comes into it's own with cartridges suited for longer range. Let's use a 308Win as an example with a Fed case/Fed210/IMR-4064/150gr B-Tip: 1. Determine the Seating Depth so the Bullet just kisses the Lands. All initial Load Development can be done here or at some distance Off-the-Lands(0.020", 0.025", 0.030") at your choosing. 2. Look in your Load books and select a specific starting point for the Powder. We will say that is 43.0gr. 3. Load one cartridge at 43.0gr, another at 43.2gr and so forth(increasing in 0.2gr increments in each cartridge) until you reach the MAX Load shown in your Manuals or until you get 18-20 cartridges loaded. 4. Set your Target at 300yds. Very important so the Point-of-Impact movement and "grouping" of individual shots is easily located. NOTE: Shoot all shots on the same Target with the barrel conditions as nearly the same as possible. Doing this right at sunrise or sunset generally has the calmest winds. NOTE 2: Mark each shot as it is fired by noting it on a separate Target next to you by looking through a high power spotting scope. You can indicate the sequence on the actual Target once you retrieve it. 5. Look for "groups" of shots on the Target where typically 3-4 shots will group in close proximity. Let's say that was "44.0gr, 44.2gr and 44.4gr". The original Creighton Audette Method stops at #5. Those are the basics of the very best Load Development Method of all time - The Creighton Audette Method. --- Always nice to verify your Load. Reload 3-5 cartridges at each of those amounts and reshoot at 300yds on separate targets. Pick the one that is the most accurate. Let's say it was the 44.0gr Load. Fine tune the 44.0gr Load by "varying the Seating Depth" in 0.005" or 0.010" increments of your choosing. Reload 3-5 at each Seating Depth with the 44.0gr Load and reshoot. It is just that simple.
