My son has a Rem 700 SPS (24 in barrel) in 30-06. We are heading out to Kodiak Island for a fly in deer hunt next month and I wanted to try working up a load consisting of the 150 gr bullets and 4350 powder. I read about seating the bullets .05 off the lands and will try this first. Thoughts about my powder choice for this barrel length would be appreciated as my bench time will be limited and I am to laxy to set up my chrono, lol.

Snowwolfe, I get 3,000 fps with 62 gr's of H4350 and 150 Hdy's in my 21" bbl'd 30-06. That's the max book load in the Hodgdon manual and is wicked accurate in my rifle. I'd start at 60 gr's seated, as you say, .050" off the lands and carefully work up to, maybe, 61.5 gr's.

H4350 works best in my .06. 55.0 with the 168 is what my rifle likes, and what the animals hate. Big Grin

Ps. That 300 brass still hasn't shown up yet.

Thanks guys. I hate reinventing the wheel and will work with H4350 and start with 59 and go up.
