Quote: ElDe, You are wrong. You are perpetuating a common urban legend that's been floating around the internet for years that it takes a $500 custom rebarrel job to make a Mini hit a barn door. Go over to perfectunion.com and you'll find dozens of folks that have done exactly as Steve has done and changed a 5" gun into a 1.5" gun. It is a very simple recipe and if followed, THE RARE EXCEPTION is that it won't work. The accuracy of the Mini series DOES SUCK out of the box. They DO sling brass into the next county. $15 worth of bedding, maybe $10 worth of steel on the barrel, $10 gas bushing, a $35 trigger job and a half-assed attempt at finding a decent load will turn virtually all Minis into Sub-2MOA guns. Maybe this is too much to expect from a lot of gun owners, but not too much for most every guy on this board to tackle themselves.

The cost for making mine shoot well was $0, found some devcon in the garage, bedded everything, retorqued the gas block screws. All this bullshit about spending $100's of dollars to make them shoot is crap. 5 shot rapid fire 2" groups is exceptable from any rifle! Milosmate

Garbage in, garbage out. Don't expect great accuracy with cheap bullets, and it's not an AR platform. Mine is a 3MOA rifle with handloads. I'm going to try the gas block treatment with mine. Just beware of the cheap aftermarket mags (they can require some tweaking) and function should be 100%.

Smoker, I brought a second hand one a few months ago and it shot basket ball size groups at 100 meters. I bedded everything that could be bedded and now it shoots 5 shot 2" groups with mil spec ammo and 1.5 " groups with reloads. They are a great rifle that just needs a bit of tuning. The link you were given from Steve has a wealth of info and the people are very helpfull. If you need some info let me know. Had a AK and it wouldn't hit a basket ball at 50 meters. There are a lot of Ruger bashers out there!!!! My Mini 30 is my prefered bush rifle now. Milosmate

Quote: And I had a Mini 30 and was very disappointed with it. It would shoot a 1.5" group. Then I'd make a sight adjustment to get the group where I wanted it, and fire another group to confirm the zero. Next day, I'd shoot it again, only to find that the group was nowhere near where it had been the day before! wANDERING ZERO!! I was never able to find a way to get it's zero to stop wandering around, regardless of ammo, etc. This effort included giving it an M-14 National Match type expoxy-steel bedding job. I got rid of the damn thing! I have an SKS, which only shoots 2"-3" groups, but they are all in the same place from one day to the next. If you want an ACCURATE 7.62X39mm rifle, get a CZ 527 carbine! I have one of these, and it will shoot my handload of the 180-grain Speer .311 RN bullet into 1" all day long, at a MV of 2100 FPS from the 18.5" barrel! And a month from now, it still will hit the same spot on the target, too.

Let face cold hard facts. "IT SUCKS" Most innacurate POS I have ever held in my hands. Hope I am not being too vague.

Been thinking about getting one of these and wondered if there were any opinions Plus or minus? I had a mini .223 and was very disapointed with accuracy. Appreciate any input. Thanks Smoker

Like I said, I accurized mine for a whopping $65.00. That included the trigger job, stock bedding (with instuctional video) and the gas ports and shock buffer. I also retorqued my gas block screws. The trigger job and gas block bushings etc. were from Mike Knifong in Oregon. Mike.W.Knifong@tek.com The trigger was back to me in less than 2 weeks. In all fairness to the Mini haters, I think my mini was a better shooter from day one than most. Mine shot pretty well with the exception of "fliers" before I accurized it. I can still get it to spay bullets everywhere with certain powders. I mean big groups ( 4 to 5 inches). Mine shoots R-7 really well, and AA 1680 not to bad.

Expect the same from the Mini-30.

Steve is right they are not noted for accuracy. However, like all rifles they can me accurized. I have a Mini-30 that I purchased in 1987 and it love it. Last month I bedded the stock, changed the gas block port, installed a shock buffer, and had the trigger set to 3.5lbs all for a whopping $65.00. I took it to the range this weekend to test it out. It shot suprisingly well. I had to shoot a shit load of rounds using 4 diff. powders and 4 diff bullets but, I found a really good combo. My Mini loves R-7 in Both Sierra 125 and 135gr and Hornady 130gr, it hates Nosler BT's, IMR 4227 and AA 2230. AA 1680 was OK but not great. The 125 and 130's grouped about 1.25in at 75 yards and the 135gr grouped at a little less. This was a BIG improvement over the 2.5 to 3in groups with an occational flier I was getting before. The Mini-30 is a "Fun Gun" and will do a good job on deer sized game under 100 yards. If you are looking for an auto that will shoot accurately at distanced of more than 100 yards the Mini is not the gun, maybe a Browning BAR. Friends don't let friends buy a Ruger Mini anything. You can make a Mini shoot well , but you can also make a lawnmower fly if you spend enough money. Why bother. JMO Covey16
