HI,

I hate to go there, but what the hell. How much more fps will a 416 Dakota get over a 416 REM.I think, this is my opinion only, if it will not do more than 10 or 120 fps it is not worth the extra cost in brass. I have look at many other rounds and it seems if I just stick with the standard, and do not go to any so called wildcats, there really is no improvement. I look at the trajectory of the rounds and a 100 or 150 fps with the same size and weight really does not make a whole of differents. Thanks, kev

Kev,

The 416 Dakota is virtually the same thing as the 416 Rem Ultra.

Either one can probably increase velocity by about 100 f/s over the 416 Remington.

The 416 Dakota is the 404 Jeffrey Improved and necked down from 423 to 416. The Rem Ultra cases a justa few thou bigger in diameter than the Jeffrey case.

Does it really make any difference when you are shooting .416's?

Since I absolutely see no need in anything over 2400fps for a rifle of this caliber, NO! More velocity means nothing. It doesn't help penetration or bullet performance one iota, if anything it is a detriment.

Kev,

We have been through it before.

If you want more than 416 Remington just get a CZ 550 in 416 Rigby. Ultra brass will be cheaper than 416 Rigby brass, but you will soon use up all the savings on brass in the additional costs of getting a 416 Ultra/Dakota up and running. In addition, because the 416 Rigby loaded to full pressure will just about make all your teeth fall out, by default you will be using low pressure in the Rigby cases and they will last forever.

As John S has said before, if you want a 416 for serious big game shooting only, then the 416 Remington is the answer. If you want to play about, then the CZ in 416 Rigby is the go.
