I'm trying to develope a load for 4" ruger redhawk 44 mag. The goals are very clean, low recoil, approx. 1200 fps, and a powder that will also work with ligher loads. At this point I've been playing around with 240xtp, wlp primers, and AA5. I finally settled on 12.7 grs (still has quite a bite), this just exceeds 1000fps, but it is very clean and accuracy is pretty good as well. But I really want to get the velocity a little faster and the recoil less (which isn't going to happen with aa5), any suggestions? I've been suggested bluedot (not sure how clean this one will be) and universal. Also any thoughts on Herco?

IMR 4227 is a good powder for the 240 gr. bullets in the 44 mag.Use a mag. primer, will help keep it clean.
