Anyone have any good loads or used this combo on big game? TIA, Joe.

I have worked on this load quite a bit, but cannot locate my notes. As I remember it is hard to gain that much of a velocity advantage on the 7 rem mag. I have used three different 175 grain 7mm bullets on game in the 7 rem mag. The partition worked well and performed as advertised. ------------------

Thanks for the comments. I have never been all that big of a fan of 7mm anything but recently ended up with a STW die set and a 100 rounds of new brass. Combined with a shelf load of partial boxes of 7mm bullets from a previous 7mm Weatherby, and I'm thinking about a 7STW. And with a case that large, a 175 grain bullet seems to make the most sense. I have used Reloader 25 in a couple of guns and have been impressed with it. In the 338 Ultra it seemed to be the best for accuracy and speed and it's looking real good in a 25-06 I'm working on now. I have an excellent load with 175 grain partitions using a very slow surplus powder called WC 872. It is available from several sources, including Jeff Bartlett and others. Surplus powders are not always consisitent in burning rate from one lot to the other, so if you use WC 872 or the very similar WC 860, work up and watch pressure signs. I am getting 3100 fps from a 24" barrel using WC 872 in the high 90-grain area. This is a compressed load. Magnum-force primers are probably fine, but not necessary.

JMAC, will you elaborate on your efforts with your 25-06 and RL25??? I have a custom that I shoot RL22 in and was sure to use some RL25 next. The RL25 has been very good to me. It`s what makes my 6.5/06 Ackley tick. Very good with light bullets in 264 Win Mag also.

79 gr RL25 behind 175 gr Nosler Part. @ 3100 fps from a 24" barrel Rem 700. Rem brass and LR Mag primer. Same components except Sierra 175 gr bullet, same results. - Dan

I'm not a 7 STW fan but it is a whale of a round on paper....A 175 gr. Nosler at 3100 FPS should shoot flatter than Robin Hoods bow string and lay low anything on this side of the pond with ease.....I personally wouldn't even consider a lighter bullet in any 7 Magnum... ------------------

Thanks for the additional comments. Tim, I hate to give any specific numbers cause I was over any published data I've seen. But I will say I was only about 100 fps behind the max speeds for the 257 Weatherby as listed in the Hornady book. I only tried the 120 grain Partition. Never saw any high pressure signs but I stopped while I was ahead. The gun is a 700 with a 26 inch Shilen barrel and it has a tighter chamber than my other 25-06. Shorter throat too, so I unscrewed the barrel and lengthened the throat. I haven't had time to experiment since I put it back together. If you try RE-25 in a 25-06, let me know what you find out.
