The 45/70 shoots well with almost any powder and 405 gr hard cast bullets.

It shoots well with reduced loads to hot loads and from Unique to 4895.

I would imagine that the 458 is much the same.
I have not tried it yet, but I am going to.

A fella that I occasionally hunted with back in the 60s used a 500 gr, cast bullet in his Ruger #1, .458. Saw him put that bullet through a mule deer buck at about 30 yds. The in and out holes were the same size.

If not a full case of 3031 it was darn close. roger
