Fine bullets in my experience, I have only fired the 17, 20 and 22 bullets on small game and varmints. Great results

Here's a link to some testing (including a number of photos) I conducted with the then-new 7mm 140 grain VLD-Hunting bullet.

My 7mm Rem Mag loves 'em. I have killed Kudu, Gemsbok, Black Wildebeest, Whitetail, Axis, Feral Hogs and Aoudad using Berger 168VLDs and they worked like a champ from point blank to a lasered 363 yards on the Kudu. Accurate as hell to!

I used them in a 22-250 I built.....I shot a ten-shot group into .375 inches.....

Far and away the most accurate bullet I ever shot!

I use the 95 and 105 grain hunting vld in my .243 - great results 1/2" at 100 yards
I use the 155 and 168 gr hunting vld in my 308 and 300wsm...very nice both 3/4 and under at 100 yards
just got in some 140 gr hunting vlds in .270 today. Planning on working them up in a Savage 114.

The only animal I took was a yote at 140 yards. Hit him with the 95 gr in .243. DRT!! no kicking or squirming.

Hey Tom, One of my buddies mentioned he had Hunted out there last year and got the impression the Ultra-Leftist Radical-Liberals were running everything. So, that "Warning" fits right in.

HTR30CAL....you won't be disappointed if you go with Bergers. I use 50 gr Berger match bullets in my 22-250 for coyotes and fox...one heck of an accurate bullet, and deadly on any furry critter I've ever flung 'em at.

kstrick5002...you also will not be disappointed with the 140 gr VLD's in .277....I used these exact same bullets last fall in my .270 WSM on 3 white-tails from point blank out to over 350 yards and all 3 died right smartly....and like I said above, one heck of an accurate bullet, my brother calls 'em "missiles" because of the shape and length of the VLD's....I agree with my brother!

The 30 caliber 175gr Berger VLD in my 308 is a deer-hog killing machine. Works very well.

Our DOW is run by the DOW and self funded and part of the budget goes to defend our rights to hunt/fish etc. Here is a clip on how the warning came about
http://wildlife.state.co.us/NR...eRecommendations.pdf

We do have certain groups like to turn Co into another California comes from Boulder and college (law students) guess it's part of their class studies to sue DOW for what ever reason they can come up with. The last case which they lost was over (sport shooting) of PD it doesn't cost them a dime but DOW has to spend money. As a hunter like to fish also it's always fun to see what those students come up with next.

Is there a difference between the VLD Hunting and the VLD Target construction? Or is it all the same stuff?

I am told that the jacket on the hunting is not as thick as the target, thus ensuring expansion on game.

I've used Berger bullets in my 22-250Rem and my 25-06Rem...very accurate bullets. I have not, however, ever used any of their coated bullets.

First off, here is Berger's definintion of VLD:

The VLD bullet design is a combination of two very specific features. The first is a boat tail which is common on long and heavy bullets. The second and most important design feature is the long secant ogive. It is this ogive shape that allows the bullet to experience less drag as it flies to the target. This reduced drag is how the VLD shoots flatter and is less affected by wind (less drift) than other bullets. Reduced drag also translates into higher retained velocity. These are important results if you want your bullet to help improve your accuracy by requiring less sight adjustments when conditions change.

The difference between the VLD hunting bullet and the VLD target bullets are exactly as NimrodRx stated...a thinner jacket on the VLD hunting bullet ensures expansion within the animal.

Personally I like more penetration for me. Partition Accubond etc. I know they were tested successfully in New Zealand etc but I do not like the "no expansion for 1.5-2" and then almost full bullet consumption in the vitals deal". They do not exit often enough for me.
