Just picked up by son a 7mm-08 and needed some good loads for the Nosler bullets.
Any particular powder been better for you?
I usually hand load a 270 and 7mm mag with the old H4831. Since these guns have been worked up so long ago I am hoping even though the case might be a little small to get the H4831 to work so that I have only one powder for the bot to work with.
Sorry, But IMO, 4831 is just too slow burning to give decent performance in the 7mm-08. Hodgdon doesn't even list loads for it in their data. If you insist on using the same powder for 270 Win, 7mm Mag and 7mm-08, understand that you will not get optimal performance from all 3 cartridges. If the powder is fast enough to be used in a 7-08, then it will not get anywhere near maximum velocities in the .270 or 7 mag. You might be able to use something like 4350 in all three, but again, it probably won't give top accuracy or velocity in any of them. Better plan is to continue to use your 4831 in the .270 and 7 mag and resign yourself to keeping an exclusive powder on hand for the 7-08, something along the line of Varget, 4064, Reloder 15. One other powder that might work decently in all 3 would be Reloder 19. It is similar to 4350 in burn rate and is very versatile. It would give top velocities in the .270, and pretty decent in the 7 mag with lighter bullets, should also be adequate with heavier bullets (140 gr and up) in the 7-08. Good luck.

Jim, 39.5-41grs. RE15, 9 1/2 primers would be the best place to start, RE15 is an awesome powder in my 7mm08. Though I do use 39.5grs. of Varget for the 150Nosler BT, and it puts em in a nice .460" hole(5 shots), 3 in the same hole. Suppose any powder in that range will work just fine, but I'd start with RE15, does seem to go through my powder measure a bit better than Varget or 4064 for sure. Jay

I've had some excellent results with the Nosler indicated "most accurate powder" and the most accurate charge weight of that powder.
Noslers states the RE15 is the most accurate powder tested at37.5 grains. They state a muzzle velocity of 2596 fps. I also get muzzle velocities as much as a 100 to 150 fps lower than their published muzzle velocities.

What type of primer are you using and what length barrel do you have on your 7mm-08?
The Save has 22 inch and the new trigger. Boy it is crisp. I plan to shoot nosler 140 grain if possible. The other guns all love the nosler bullets in 150 and 7mm loves the 175 too.
Everyone thanks for the help. Vargret?
I have been out of reloading for a long time. I quit when I got the best loads for the 270 and 7 mag. CCI primer and H4831 is still a great combo with both giving 3/4 inch groups and hot as they will go with out expanding more. Both are Remmington 700 actions on old Chet Brown fiberglass floated stocks. Heck I can remember talking with Chet more than once on the fine art of bedding at the time.
All help appreciated. I want to find my son a good combo that will last him till..
Rem. 9 1/2 & 24" bbl.(Rem. Stainless/synthetic)tupperware stock replaced with HS Precision sporter stock, one thing I'd add is, I tried Varget with 150MKs and it didn't seem to like that combo, RE15 worked great though, Varget did work really well with the 150 BTs, I'd try em both, either one is an excellent powder. Shoot slow, don't let the barrel get too warm, and you'll get your best groups, I shoot 1 shot every 2min. or so. Jay
